N is for ... No Instructions Needed
Taking a traditional and every day object and embracing interactive social media in a non-intrusive way is a concept which seems to be highly desirable by both designers and users. Traditional objects are simple, they don't complicate your life, so why create an object which is so overly complicated that it needs an instruction manual.
Product Designer Chris McNicholl has kept it simple, it doesn't need an instruction manual, and to top it off, his TweetingSeat demonstrates how interactivity can be used in conjunction with social media without even the use of a laptop or smartphone.
The TweetingSeat is pretty straightforward. Two cameras, one incorporated into the bench design and one situated nearby looking onto the bench. Once seated, the cameras capture your leisurely activities and send them straight to a twitter feed and the projects' blog.
This may seem quite big-brotherish to some, however the concept is to simply connect physical and digital communities. "The way in which the bench should be used has purposely been left open, allowing people and communities to build their own relationship with it.”
The user is the star of the show and your audience is online followers. It's just a walk in the park with one hell of an audience.
