1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?There are a few things that are popping up in my mind right now. I had a summer job tutoring, and I’ve never gotten paid for my services before, so that was kind of cool. I started university and now live in a dorm with a roommate, and I’ve never lived with a roommate before. I went to prom, and rode in a limo. I had my first kiss. I ordered Chinese takeout at 3am in the morning. That’s probably not all but that’s all I can think of.
7. What dates from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?August 31st, because it was when I moved into my dorm and frosh week officially started. This date represents a new beginning for me; a brand new adventure; a unopened, blank notebook waiting to be filled with colourful stories and memories. December 20th, the day I turned 18, legally an adult. Birthdays might not count as special days in a particular year, since they happen every year, but this one was pretty special because it made me feel powerful knowing I’m legally an adult now.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?Graduating high school being on honour roll and receiving a special commencement award was probably my biggest achievement this year. My school has commencement in November, and graduates all head back from their respective universities. It was really great seeing my old friends and classmates. It felt pretty amazing to have that moment when you walk across the stage for your diploma and you hear the applause from the audience and it just makes four years of shitty teachers, petty arguments, and 3am cram sessions worth it. At least for me. Then afterwards you surround yourself with your closest friends and they remind you that for every crap memory of high school, they were there to give you a million great ones to make up for it (like the times you laughed until you couldn’t breathe anymore or the lunches they spent making up silly backstories with you about your shitty teachers when they were particularly shitty). Whoa that went on longer than I expected but I just have lots of feels for high school and graduation and being able to celebrate this accomplishment with my friends okay?
9. What was your biggest failure?I haven’t had an incident where I failed so spectacularly that it made me reevaluate my whole life and my dubious choices. But if I had to pick one thing, I would say that not giving it 100% in university and allowing myself to kind of be derailed in terms of my work ethic and such. Living away from home and have classes that weren’t as structured as high school is a transition that I’m still getting used to, and I do notice that I am distracted a lot when I study, resulting in grades that are average, but still subpar in my opinion. So I’m hoping to change all of that in the new year and the new semester.
This turned out to be pretty long and probably not grammatically correct but whatever it’s 2am I have a tendency to rant after 12am. Have a wonderful new year, Pearl! Let’s kick ass in 2015. :)
