Monologue or Minilogue
I am in month nine of the Notes doc where I mash out pre-sabbatical music project thoughts, and I still woke up this morning and thought maybe I should consider, yet again, whether to buy a Korg Monologue or Minilogue.
They are different! I had a Monologue on my list at the start, but convinced myself the Minilogue was the right answer, but also, aside from the obvious differences, if you ask anyone this question, they ask you a question, like, "well what kind of music do you want to make? what kind of sound do you want?" and then I have to remember what the answers are to those questions and make sense out of them?
If the answer is "I want to sound like Stereolab," then the MIDI Farfisa and an analog polyphonic synth are probably a good idea, especially considering Laetitia toured/s with a Minilogue in lieu of a big Moog Opus. Not that I know how to make it sound like anything yet.
If the answer is "I want to sound like LCD Soundsystem," then a Monologue playing big fuzzy basslines and leads is kinda fun! But could I do that with a MIDI Minimoog or something? Probably.
If the answer is "uhhhhh I want to twiddle knobs and learn synthesis" then everyone will say a Monologue is the right answer, too.
Hmmmmm.
