hi hi hi x 3. what were your top five books of the year? definitely happy all the time by laurie colwin, galapagos: a novel by fátima velez, my death by lisa tuttle and the murderbot diaries series by martha wells. i also reread the raven cycle (well, not included trk) and that held up surprisingly well. i didn't read much this year in all honesty, what with all the health issues. i reread a fair bit 4. did you discover any new authors that you love this year? oh i'm definitely planning on reading more of laurie colwin's books! i've been struggling with more contemporary romance books, and happy all the time really was such a breath of fresh air 12. any books that disappointed you? oh, more than a few. i need to find different recommendation sources because i find i'm turning up more and more duds. technically this says 'disappointed' and not 'enraged' so i'm going to not talk about the invisible life of addie larue, which i've ranted about ad nauseum at this point lol. but despite including it in my top books, i'm going to have to include the murderbot diaries! i suspect this is a me thing, because i had the same issues with the series as i did with the martian - which is to say, i don't really care for extensive descriptions of scifi contraptions. i was also a bit disappointed by big swiss by jen beagin. it read like a draft that accidentally got published. everything else that was disappointing i mostly went in with low expectations 13. what were your least favourite books of the year? coming in at number one! the invisible life of fucking addie larue! over five hundred pages of fuck all! oh you want to read about an immortal's travels through history and all the amazing things they might have seen? here you go: 🖕. i ranted more about it here but. i am always happy to go again <3 i didn't end up finishing perfume and pain by anna dorn, but that comes in a swift second. the seven husbands of evelyn hugo was entertaining but objectively it just really sucked lmao it's one of those books where you can so very clearly see that the author is imagining the movie in her head and writing down what she sees. i had low expectations for if you're reading this, it's meant for you by leigh stein honestly because of how online it came across as being, but ultimately it just lacked atmosphere.

what are your favorite foods?? also what is your fave non dairy milk (mine is soy)
oHHooHoH that's a tough question. i like a lot of things. here are some that immediately come to mind (a mixture of basic/ingredient foods and complicated/meal foods)
anything with miso / miso itself
dolmas / stuffed grape leaves
TOFU!!! raw? fried? baked? grilled? silken/in desserts? other? yes please
mushrooms/anything mushroom based
i love spicy food and hot sauces - i think my favorite hot sauce (def for flavor rather than heat, but still a nice low-heat sauce for when you want that!) is barnacle foods's alaskan bullwhip sauce.
pickles/anything pickled or fermented
olives, kimchi, kraut...see above
i love kumquats, and they're probably my favorite fruit!
alas, i am a basic oat milk bitch when i'm just shopping at the store. however, fresh soymilk beats all other plant milks by a mile. i love oat-anything tbh, and oats (sweet or savory) are my favorite grain base.

in my freshman yr English class I was one of 2 ppl who had heard of Hegel and when the prof asked how I knew abt dialectics i was just like "uhh ..from...Around you know" bc i didn't want to admit I'd read him on Tumblr
HAHAHAHA YEAH i'm actually super academically interested in digital knowledge networks like tumblr that make this kind of engagement possible but also it's so fucking funny to enter into formal academic space like "yeah i just Found This Term laying on the ground and picked it up and Totally Not From Randoms On the Internet..."
