"So? How it'd go?" Ten resisted the urge to groan. He had known she would pounce on him as soon as they were both alone. With a sigh, he acknowledged that he had had a break the night before, since he was asleep before she got home... Doesn't mean he hadn't heard her open his bedroom door at 11:23.
"Ten? You listening?"
"I heard you, August."
"So? Your date. It went how?"
"I..." Ten really didn't want to tell his twin just how the date had gone. Terrible was one way to put it. "Don't think it'll happen again," he finally murmured.
"What?" It was purely amazing how many octaves August's voice could go in one word.
"I thought Miranda really liked you!" She emphasized it with a heavy slap on the arm. "What did you do?"
Ten sidestepped away from his sister before she could smack him again and opened the kitchen fridge to get a water bottle.
"I don't know what I did, August. But she didn't seem too happy when I dropped her off at home."
August's angry stance faded when she heard the dejection in his voice. "Well then."
Ten looked up and saw her give a decisive nod. "Just means you need my help."
