Is Twitter Still Relevant for Today’s Market?
Twitter is by far the second most adopted social media platform worldwide. In contrast to other social sites such as Facebook or LinkedIn, Twitter is a ‘microblogging’ site. Managing multiple Twitter Accounts
Lately, I have been researching various techniques and best practices on managing company accounts. Here is a very useful article from Forbes, in case you are just starting to manage your employer’s of client’s Twitter. These tips may seem a bit basic, but, believe me, they may make a big difference in your success or failure. Here is another article on setting up and managing a business account, which helped me alot in understanding the structure and psychology of Twitter.
One thing that I learned from the Red Cross case study was that you never know when you might confuse the corporate account with your personal one. That is why, the first thing I did was deactivating my personal account (not that I was using it alot). This easy step insured me from putting myself in a sticky situation and posting questionable remarks about a TGIF bar-hoping experience.
Managing someone’s personal account is a completely different story. It may to be easy. What’s the big deal? It’s a person! Unfortunately, posting something that a person would stricktly disagree with can bring to rather unpleaseant consequences.
I personally find that personal accounts should be managed by the people who own them, not managers or assistants. Anyhow, if your boss has a very busy schedule or is 75 year’s old and owns a 90′s Nokia, you might end up being the one to create content on their behalf. In this case, I would recommend being very careful with personal opinions and views, and stick to the common sense and general information. Statistics and other types of data that have a distinct meaning (negative or positive) can represent an opportunity to express strong feelings about certain issues. Otherwise, keep it general and informational.
Working with corporate and personal accounts needs approved strategies, but it also requires quick decision-making, when trending discussions are taking place in real-time.
