Let the Social Media follies begin!
Welcome to this blog! What you’ll find here is bits of social media knowledge aimed at an intermediate level- feel free to use these pearls of funky wisdom for your own personal SM site or biz sites as you please. I’ve spent a couple of years working on SM on a professional level and I’ve also done SM consulting and training with individuals and offices across the country (the U.S. to be precise) and now want to share this with you on this wonderful piece of SM that is Tumblr.
So if you’re ready, before I get into the assorted dos and don’ts of SM, I’d like to start out with some think-piece articles I penned for the stalwart cultural site PopMatters about SM over the last few years. Please take a look at them and let me know what you think:
* The Fragmented Self Through Social Media: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/65741-the-fragmented-self-online/
* Twitter Phonies: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/73743-twitter-phonies-who-are-you-really-following/ (since then, Twitter wisely amped up their verification process, especially for celebs)
* Twitter’s Power and Its Limits: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/92571-twitters-power-limits-think-pieces/ (UPDATE: several services now let you mouth off in a lengthier way on Twitter, which I’ll go over in a future post)
* Twitter and Its Limits/Concerts: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/92563-twitters-power-limits-live-tweets-at-concerts/ (happy to say that I’ve (mostly) learned my lesson from this)
