Twitter was one of the main driving forces behind the occupy wall street movement. It allowed people to communicate and interact without being face to face. This helped protesters to plan meetings and also express their feelings. This also allowed for the decentralization of leadership. Twitter kinda of took over a leadership role which allowed multiple people to lead and express their feelings. This use of Twitter cab be seen in other movements such as the Arab spring.
