I think if Grace had actually loved Thaniel - if there'd been anything beyond a general tolerance and 'he's a warm body', if Thaniel would be allowed to follow all of the dreams he had instead of just being the means for Grace to follow hers, Mori wouldn't hate her quite so much.

Natasha Pulley really has a way of writing male characters who frankly do utterly deplorable things and making me love them regardless by showing how broken and fragile and just how human they are.

She also has a knack of writing female characters that I utterly detest.

Although the plots are always very different and varied I have noticed similarities between the mc’s and their relationships. Literally the most scary men you will ever meet who are super soft with their bf’s who happen to be men who think themselves completely ordinary.

I’m not really complaining because I love her writing style. It’s so clever and intricate and just feels so tender and personal.

Buuuut... I do wish her characters varied a bit more. Especially the women. Can you imagine a female mc given the Pulley treatment rather than being a mildly likeable support charter or a heinous villain. Even better can you imagine how freaking amazing it would be to have that found later in life complicated tender love dynamic between two women?! It would blow my mind!

As far as I’m aware Pulley is a cishet women so it’s not like her constantly writing about queer men is telling her own story (honestly I’m a bit conflicted about it cos the stories are beautiful but why is a straight woman writing about queer men in every single book she has ever published?). If she’s a particularly close with the LGBTQ+ community through friends/family and she wants to write amazing books with good rep then I’m all for it, but a bit more variety would be nice.

I just would really love some badass complicated women that were really fleshed out rather than bitter women who are treated like the thing the mc’s have to settle for it are just truly terrible people....

A rambling thought that doesn’t really make too much sense but like do yall get what I mean about her books?
