Ooh Darry almost going Soc??

Okay so I think this started in high school? I think his dynamic with Paul went from enemies to friends to…???? to enemies again-so they started being friends in high school when the coach kept picking them to pair up for warmups and stuff and they slowly started becoming friends; which is when darry started identifying more with soc life-he kinda got all into it too, he’d hang out with paul and his friends in their mustangs, he’d drink too, and mrs curtis could always smell it on him, even when he denied it (it broke her heart into a million bits but he’d just flat out deny it every time-he gets into petty crime-theft, vandalism, stuff like that.

i kinda think that he’d be seen as one of them almost at school? like i don’t think he’d join in with the harassment of other kids (especially it was like…his brothers or if they were trying to sexually harass a girl or smth because darry doesn’t fw that) but he’d kinda just stand there in Moral Dilemma Land until it was over, to which he’d just…kinda stand there? he talks to them about it a lot but they never listen-

i think it all came to an end when he and a few other guys get arrested-his mom has to come and pick him up, and he’s expecting some shit, for her to yell at him, for him to get punished, but instead she gives him the silent treatment. his mom ignores him until she just blows up and starts crying and yelling at him and that hurts him more than anything-that’s when he started weening off of his friends and started hanging out with the greasers again because while dally and two bit might not have been the best, at least they weren’t cruel.

i also think two and darry were childhood best friends and during this time he kinda started ignoring two a little bit more-like some michael in the bathroom type shi
