Never Doubt My Instincts (story time)
(I shared this with some friends and I figured I'd make a post to share the laughs)
Ok this is a two day adventure of hilarity to share so buckle up:
Yesterday I had to take a refrigerated trailer so I could do shuttle work for a berry farm.
All the trailers had an issue except one but for some reason I had this feeling that I REAAALLLYYY shouldn't take that trailer.
I called the night dispatch and had him check it over with me but neither of us could find anything wrong and it being the only one seeming ready to go, I didn't have much choice.
I get almost to the farm when I notice I don't have a left blinker working on the trailer. After checking in and looking over the light I found it was a blown fuse on my truck so not a trailer issue.
I dock the trailer and leave with a pre-loaded one
On my way back to the farm to drop the now empty trailer, I get a call that the engine died on the trailer I bought and I need to check it.
I'm laughing cause I knew something was off with it and there it was...or so I thought. (Problem 1)
I arrive, dock the empty and check the engine codes before trying to hook to it...and discover the landing gear (the legs of the trailer) have sunk to almost too low for my tires to get under. Considering I dropped the trailer myself, that shouldn't be that way but I get the trailer hooked up and out the dock to the parking lot.
Apparently the legs are now messed up and won't lower all the way anymore so now I'm stuck attached to it. (Problem 2)
By now I'm cracking up even harder because of course more was wrong.
I talk with work and they tell me they'll send a mechanic and do what I can to get put from that trailer so I get some bricks and get unhooked so I can continue hauling with the working trailer the rest of the day.
Weeeellll the mechanic arrives almost at the end of the shift with a working trailer that we'll use the next day and has me rehook to the broken on to bring it to the shop and end my day.
It's been a good silly day, all in all, so I'm relaxed, hit the highway, not quite entering portland traffic when the trailer engine, the engine that is turned off mind you, decides to explode. (The big problem 3 XD)
Feeling the explosion then hearing it, I pull over and hop out expecting a blown tire but was quick to see the fire and smoke sooooo quickly unhooked and used my fire extinguisher while calling the mechanic.
Once put out, I rehooked and took it to the shop just fine but I just laughed and laughed cause I KNEW something was off! Work now knows not to doubt my instincts XD
Day two is still in motion but I figured I'd share the morning for another quick chuckle:
I was told to be at the farm at 7, show up at 6:45, get told by the manager of the farm that I am not scheduled till 8.
I go ahead and dock the trailers in prep for the day and hang out though I made note to my dispatch that one of the trailers is getting low on fuel.
They tell me to get it fueled but don't be late....but it's already 8 so...?
I ask for permission to fuel at a truck stop near the secondary location but apparently our company doesn't fuel at that brand of truck stop so I call my dispatch to discuss options.
I am then told to try and swing going to the nearest approved truck stop but don't be late to return to the farm. If I can't work it, then do it at the end of the day.
Well as luck would have it, I figured a route that would only add ten minutes to my trip so I go for it.
I get the the truck stop and see one fuel pump open and clear which would be great for my need to save time but once again, I get that feeling of maaayyyybe I shouldn't but it wasn't a huge feeling so I went for it with fingers crossed.
I got over 3/4's of a tank full when the fuel hose popped clean off the fuel pump.
No reason.
Just popped and flopped beside me with the handle in my hand.
I laughed hard the whole way to the fuel desk to let them know and just decided for the sake of time to go with what I've got since I was already taking longer than I had planned.
Then there was traffic to leave the truck stop.
Then there was construction literally right at the entrance to the farm.
So by now I'm worried I've thrown off the delivery times but what can ya do, ya know?
I get docked and get told that they won't have a load ready for me to deliver for another hour or two.
I DIDN'T HAVE TO RUSH AT ALL XD
So now I am parked, waiting to be loaded, and am enjoying PB&J's with the strawberry preserves the farm gave me ^.^
