Two-Lined Spittlebug & Mint Beetle
hi friend,
heres a few creatures ive stumbled upon throughout these last couple of years
(unsure as to any of their species, but all of these pictures were taken in western North Carolina)
Lovely friends! RIP to the jumper's meal, but a spider's gotta eat. The first fella appears to be a broad-headed bug, which is a plant-feeding true bug related to leaf-footed bugs. The second is of course a mosquito and the third is a Phidippus jumper (probably a bold jumper, Phidippus audax) eating what I think is a two-lined spittlebug :)
@enbyboiwonder submitted: Found a tiny slug friend on the walkway today! Adorable. Pointer finger for scale.
This friend hitched a ride home with me on a false dandelion. Are they a type of aphid?
This friend we found hanging out on the kitchen window. When my mother tried to move them outside, we discovered they more jump than fly. I’m assuming they’re a type of hopper? Both because of the jumping, and I learned recently that they’re related to cicadas, and this guy does look vaguely like a miniature cicada.
(Found in N. Texas)
Also, not exactly a bug, but I saw a crayfish wandering the neighborhood the other day. We live like 3 mi. from the nearest lake so I’m assuming they escaped from someone who’d bought/caught some.
Just a little dude. Made my day.
Very small and cute slug! Incredible eye stalks. Yes, the second pal is a winged aphid. The third friend is a two-lined spittlebug, which is a froghopper, which is indeed related to cicadas and other hoppers in the infraorder Cicadomorpha. The poor crayfish! Hope they magically make it back to some water :(
@eradami submitted: Tumblr does not allow more than one photo to be submitted at once??? Or I am missing the option??? I have much more than one nice bug to submit >:( Well anyway this and the following Nice Bugs are located in Georgia.
It does allow it, but don’t ask me how since I have never submitted. I am sure someone can tell you how in the comments since lots of people do it regularly. For now, though I’ll just add your other photos to this post myself ~
These are all SUPER nice bugs. Not to play favorites, but I love the millipedes with my whole heart. :))
