With how much Jae reacts to Johndo(despite being all smiley in content, instantly flicks a switch when they do something together), does he not voice out his concerns or dislikes to Doyoung? Like Do initiates it sometimes, and I know they are trying to push it a bit, but they are fairly hands on, I would guess Jae would think unnecessarily so. I feel like his jealousy gets kinda out of hand sometimes, he shows it on camera a lot so I would assume he would communicate with Do at least a bit? Or do you think Do does it unconsciously / insists to maintain his image like that.

This is a tricky question.

We see the outcome: it's been years, Jae still reacts, Do still continues to insist on the ship. We can't know what leads to it.

Addition info:

- Jae doesn't react as strongly to Tae or Woo or Yuta

- Jae communicates with Johnny actually better than Doyoung with Johnny (this comeback). They are not too close, and both are OK about it, so they have little tension now. Jae can ask Johnny to fix his cord on stage, he can return Johnny a genuine smile, etc. Their exchanges are not charged.

Why is it so? I think it's because Jaehyun was always just nice with Johnny, a coffee/wine buddy, while Doyoung first gave Johnny a lot of attention, warmth, and then "turned away".

JaeDo have to balance things. They need the help of the group members, they need peace in the group, Doyoung also needs for others to be a part of the group (he is the glue).

Nor Jaehyun, nor Doyoung can allow a real confrontation with a member. The group is more important. And not like it'd be beneficial for them as they will have to continue to work with the member.

Doyoung being "too touchy" is him making sure his intention of "see, I like him!" is not missed and noticed by everyone. JohnDo is supported by Doyoung with praises, mentions, and touches intentionally, it was so even before JohnDo got some friendship problems.

I also think Doyoung tries to pretend he doesn't have any grudge, that he forgave Johnny, to make himself be as friendly with Johnny as he was before. For now he fails. If you noticed, he patted Johnny's side instead of grabbing him tightly like he usually does with people he likes. His hand didn't linger.

So yeah, I think that even if Jaehyun shows his displeasure, Doyoung rebuts him with different arguments.

Jaehyun doesn't like to show his body, but he does it for fanservice from time to time. Same idea with JohnDo. It makes him bitter, but it's not the end of the world. His pungs of jealousy are not as important as the peace in the group.

You see Jae being super happy otherwise. Meaning, "the sacrifice" isn't that big of an issue. Jaehyun had to do fanservice with Johnny himself (like running hand in hand out of the elevator, or the popular meme). Jae also knows oh so well how Johnny is super handsy. It's easier to accept and understand if you know the issue firsthand.

When the words are not sincere. 

Many, wanting to get support to their views on things, don’t look past the surface level. We know idols lie or white-lie or say conventional things, but when it suits us, we believe them easily. 

There are many factors to any given situation, so what I will say doesn’t apply absolutely all the time, but as a rule, the body/actions should be in agreement with the words. 

Case in point. Jaehyun choosing Johnny as the person he wants to stick with for the rest of his life, and Johnny choosing him in turn. It’s a one time answer. In another interview, there will be another answer. 

Jaehyun chose Johnny, but he didn’t turn to Johnny with a “hey, my best bro, lets stick together!” action. It could have been a wide smile, a wink, a thumb up, and any other positive reinforcement. Same with Johnny. He took time to decide on a name, his voice wasn’t enthusiastic, Jaehyun didn’t turn to him with “oh, hey, you picked me! yes, I’m the best choice! high five!”. Finally, consider the lukewarm reaction of others. Mark said “oh, they picked each other”, but didn’t slap Jaehyun in “congratulation!” or looked between Johnny and Jaehyun back and forth.

Compare it with IlYu. First of all, they always pick each other, they are long time roommates. They supported each other’s cause. Yuta teased. They both widely smiled despite being the chilliest members. The actions should support the words, tell the same story.

This is a clear case of Jaehyun not "leaning into the hug", not wanting to prolong it. Remember, Jaehyun naturally isn't too big on skinship, he needs to be in the mood, he is comfortable with a few chosen people. 1) Jae moves away the moment Johnny comes close enough, putting distance for the bodies not to touch, 2) Jae takes away his right hand from Johnny's shoulder very quickly, 3) Jae doesn't make eye contact with Johnny, he turns to the audience.

I should note, that the wish to have as little of skinship as possible doesn't equal disliking a person. It simply means that the contact is not desired, not comfortable. Sweat, body heat, electricity, body odour, feeling of being overpowered/trapped - there are many factors that make human touch unpleasant to some. I had a friend that made me itch (the friend did have a skin condition, rushes, not contageous though).

Look at Taeyong taking Johnny's hand. Now, Taeyong is a clingy touchy type, we all know.

I agree with the anon. I think jaehyun doesn't trust johnny that much. I doubt that it is dislike because it's a strong statement between two group members but the way he reacts to johndo/johnny so negatively makes me think that he has some valid reasons for him to act like that. And it must be a personal problem because otherwise, doyoung wouldn't get close to him right?

If you watch EnNaNa, JohnJae did well. Jae’s biggest problem was Johnny getting into his personal space. So as collegues and bandmates they are fine. Jaehyun is inherently kind and his default is to be nice to people, he shows agression only when there is conflict of interest. Doyoung is the conflict of interest. I think the “valid reason” is Johnny’s handsiness. He forgets himself. That time Jae’s eye twitched seeing Johnny stroking Do’s neck and cheek is a testament to that. I don’t want to speculate on Johnny’s behalf, whether it is always accidental or he does it on purpose sometimes, but I can’t discard the latter possibility completely. Because Johnny knows Jaehyun doesn’t like to be grabbed and manhandled and still does it on camera. It’s like Yuta leaving toothpaste open and defending his habit. The “but it’s who I am, but I want to do it” stance.

As for spending time together, there is a big fight for Doyoung’s attention, not only between JohnJae.

Here is a thing. When Doyoung gives you attention it is full force. So few people can be this attentive, giving, understanding - it’s addictive. And then he changes his focus to another person and gives you withdrawal symptoms. People like Ten or Haechan are OK with it, because they can latch on someone else no problem. People like Taeyong, Johnny have harder time. Taeyong especially, Johnny mostly because of the circumstances he is in (limited circle of people, no really matching personalities). 

Take Renjun for example. Do treated him to homemade dinner, mentions him now everywhere, teases him, chats when they meet. But he doesn’t text him. Renjun wasn’t added to the small circle of special cases. Doyoung is overwhelmed as it is. Couple phones with the older brother, couple rings with the bff, couple jewellery with the bf, couple costumes for Halloween and sushi with the son, dinners with the little brother, coffee with the American, wine with the SM sunbaes... Taeyong wants 5 Doyoungs for a reason.

So why would Jaehyun be happy about Johnny getting yet another opportunity to spend some time with Doyoung, when he is sent by SM to do multiple events with Do as it is?
