USF SOAR Two-Stage Rocket Launch
USF SOAR Two-Stage Rocket Launch on April 21, 2019
In my report yesterday, I mentioned the fact that the winds were too strong for any high altitude launches. One of the rockets scheduled to launch was the University of South Florida Society of Aeronautics and Rocketry’s huge two-stage rocket project (Codename: TAURUS). So, here are the pictures and video of the USF SOAR Two-Stage Rocket Launch.

Contest #39: Regional Bug Line Evolution Number Results
Okay, so it's been decided that our two regional bug lines will each evolve a single time.
With that in mind, we're ready to start getting some art submissions! I'll have the rules up for that in a bit, so stay posted.
Day 120: Bug/Dark
Meurgot -> Scaravera
The curiously ornate skull-like patterns that cover Scaravera's shell can paralyze people with fear. When a Scaravera senses danger, it will click its shell together, bringing attention to itself with a noise like the rattling of bones, before raising its shell up to freeze and neutralize the threat. People in olden times people would take advantage of this ability by collecting their shed carapaces to use as masks for hunting and for protection. This practice eventually evolved into a sort of holiday where people don Scaravera masks in order to try and build up a resistance to their paralytic effects, and the remains of ancient Scaravera show that they have, over time, grown increasingly more terrifying shells in response.
Wild Scaravera lay their eggs inside of discarded skulls, which young Meurgot use as protection as they grow. For this reason this Pokémon can often be seen feuding with wild Cubone, as they are in direct competition for skeletal resources.
Scaravera are inspired by sugar skulls (calaveras de azúcar) as well as scarab beetles. Thanks to Adam for helping with the names and flavor. And thanks to everyone for following our project! It's been fun, but we've now officially run through the list of unused Pokémon types twice and it's time to call it a rest. (Stay tuned, Adam will write more on that tomorrow!)
Day 119: Ghost/Steel
Pompadour -> Modapsych
Proud little Pokémon, Pompadour are constantly grooming themselves using the thick, oily ectoplasm that they produce, keeping their bladed limbs sharp and their hair pointed and shiny. Once they feel that their appearance is sufficient, they will throw wild and raucous parties in graveyards, usually around midnight. Though the pranks they pull are usually harmless, it is still wise to be wary around them, since their hair and blades are very sharp, and a brush with them can cause damage on not just a physical level, but on a spiritual level as well.
During particularly dark nights, gangs of Modapsych can be seen riding through the air, leaving long, spectral trails in their wake. Though long viewed as a terrible omen, it is now known that these are in fact noble Pokémon, who help protect the spirits of human deceased from any malevolent entities that might wish to pursue them as they travel from the land of the living to the land of the dead. A slash from Modapsych's long bladed arm can help to sever a spirit's ties to the material realm, helping it to achieve rest more easily.
Pompadour and Modapsych are based on the greaser subculture of the 1950's, as well as on the Grim Reaper and other psychopomps. Their abilities are Defiant, Guts and Pickpocket.
Also, hey! We're nearly done!
Day 117: Fire/Water
Niftea -> Porslayne
A natural botanist, Niftea can identify medicinal herbs by eye, which it instinctively collects and stores inside the basin of boiling water around its body. The steam this produces has strong medicinal properties, and leaves those near it feeling fresh and rejuvenated. Parents commonly leave this Pokémon near their sick children, as the gentle Pokémon will instinctively care for others and nurse them back to health.
The far rarer and more elusive Porslayne is revered in the medical profession, as the properties of the healing herbs which it stores have since seeped into its body, allowing it to heat and purify water with just a touch. The boiling water that this Pokémon perpetually produces from its mouth is so nourishing that when consumed it can bring humans and Pokémon alike back from the brink of death, and extracts taken from it can be used to make powerful potions.
Niftea and Porslayne's abilities are Sap Sipper, Healer and Natural Cure.
Day 112: Normal/Poison
Venelk -> Cervillain
Venelk is constantly on the lookout for poison oak and other similar plants, which form the bulk of its diet. The poisonous oils from the plant work their way into the Venelk's fur, where it acts as a strong irritant. Those who brush up against this Pokémon are left with a painful rash that can last for weeks.
When Venelk first evolves into Cervillain the sudden growth of its antlers cause this Pokémon to itch uncomfortably. To help alleviate this, it will constantly rub its antlers against trees and large rocks, in the process leaving behind a toxic residue which marks the area as its territory.
Cervillain can recognize the territorial barrier of other Cervillain by smell, and will know instinctively to steer clear, however humans and other Pokémon can easily stumble into this trap. It is wise to seek immediate treatment after exposure to Cervillain poison, otherwise permanent scarring can result.
Thanks to Adam for the names and flavor!
Day 111: Steel/Ice
Poldrogon -> Gontlegarm
The shieldlike crest atop Poldrogon's forehead is filled with supercooled water. By adjusting the molecular structure of the shield, this Pokémon may alternatively make it hard or flexible, allowing it to defend itself in a wide range of circumstances. Poldrogon are aggressive little Pokémon, constantly bashing their heads into things to test the limits of their durability.
After evolving, Gontlegarm becomes capable of manipulating the ambient water particles in the air around itself, allowing it to form a strong, "force field"-like shell in a pinch. This shield, while thin and translucent, can be made stronger than steel, and protects the Pokémon from all sides. Though this Pokémon is very independently minded and can be tough to train, those living in more arctic climates have on occasion managed to harness their unique powers to construct ships and architecture.
There really aren't enough fluffy dinosaur Pokémon, so I based these guys off of the Crylophosaurus, a large theropod with a peculiar headcrest, and the Yutyrannus, which was the first tyrannosaur to be confirmed to have feathers. Also, it seems to be something of a tradition to base Pokémon on kaiju, so there is some influence from Space Godzilla as well.
