An automobile project was initiated by the plane maker Saab AB in 1945. By 1947, the Ursaab had been created by a 16-person team led by engineer Gunnar Ljungström and designer Sixten Sason. The car was strikingly aerodynamic and light, thanks to Saab’s experience designing aircraft, powered by a small two-cylinder, two-stroke engine. It developed into the Saab 92, the company’s first production car, with manufacture beginning on 12 December 1949.
