Ya'll know I hate "verification" text messages -- I'm going on record that I hate text verification -- but I hit next level rage today. I was ordering some supplies online for the upcoming summer at work, and apparently this website made text verification mandatory since I last ordered here.
That's frustrating enough already, but an added wrinkle is that the phone number that's already in the account is my work number, since this is a order I am placing for work. My work landline cannot accept text messages (obviously).
But in a swerve which made this incident easier, but underlines the inherent stupidity of this entire process, the "send text message" screen also had an option to change the number on file. No password login or e-mail verification necessary for that. I was allowed to just have the text sent to whatever number I want to verify that it was really me.
That is possibly the single stupidest implementation of "verification" I have ever seen.
