@twonotesaudio wants to see my favorite pick now... My go-to pick is my @jimdunlopusa Ultex Jazz III 2mm. I use different picks at different times for different reasons, but I use this the most. There's a plethora of my favorite picks if you swipe to pic 2. The 3 black diamond sphere tipped picks are the original @styluspick I got back in the early/mid 90s. It's designed to teach pick depth and it changed my life! That and the @paulgilbert_official instructional videos. If you order them now, you get those neat, transparent red picks. The @hawkpicks feel and sound great. The did everything the Redbear picks did, but I could order them anytime for 1/3 the cost. I choke up on the pick too much to take advantage of the grips, which is why I default to the Dunlops, but they sound phenomenal. Great for recording. If you use more of the pick tip, try some! @twonotesaudio wants me to show everyone my favorite drive. Ummm... I couldn't possibly pick a single favorite drive. But in a situation where I could use my own amp or at least an amp I liked that had useable/versatile gain, I'd bring the @suhrcustom #kokoboost. That's a desert island pedal. It's a clean boost and a mid boost and literally does it all beautifully. I call the mid boost side my "Les Paul pedal". If I didn't know what I was going to play through, I'd bring the @victoryampsuk V4 Kraken preamp because I could use it with whatever amplifier they gave me and make it sound like the amp I want it to be. And I'd probably put the koko boost in front of it to add flavors. The Kraken is known for metal, but I honestly think it's amazing with single coils. Week 2 of @twonotesaudio's Tone Vault giveaway wants me to show you my favorite store. Well, I have a few, so I'm going to make a few posts. Next on my list is @30thstreetguitars in Chelsea, Manhattan. Of course, Manhattan being Manhattan, it's on 27th street now because nyc landlords. Anyway...30th Street Guitars is a killer shop! NYC used to have a lot of cool guitar shops. That's hasn't been the case for years now. Hell, it's been almost a decade since there were any left on 48th Street. Music row is desolate now. Matt Umanov closed a few years ago. Rudy still has his soho showroom...but most of NYC's cool music shops disappeared. But 30th Street Guitars is still there! Jimmy can get you pretty much anything and Matt can fix or build anything else. And they're both hysterical. And again, they know everyone and have a wealth of gear knowledge. When I mentioned the Brian Moore MC/1 I bought back in 1994, he was surprised to hear about it. Then he informed me that he was a builder there back then. Small world for sure. Not to mention, I helped Susan Tedeschi of @derekandsusan pick out a guitar strap there once and it was cool af. 😂 Anyway, when you're in Manhattan, make it a stop if you dog cool music stores that do it old school. Next on my list is @andertonsmusicco in Sunny Guilford, Surrey, UK. I have the pleasure of knowing @captain_anderton and a few of the folks and even visited the store in person some years back. Much like my beloved Music Zoo, Anderton's also carries a plethora of amazing gear you'd actually find interesting and desirable. And the staff are also actually knowledgeable people who work there because it's a great gig, not simply because they get a discount on strings. But string discounts are nice. I very much look forward to going back. Then my first Guthrie and then a whole lot of Victory!
