like, just a working list of things that Should Have Gone Differently on x factor this year:

charli beard should have never been eliminated

rumour has it should not have been eliminated, especially after the massive emphasis on them being put together last year

monica should have gotten through to lives, given the massive emphasis on her not getting to judges’ houses last year

mason shouldn’t have been allowed back at all. full stop. that kind of behavior wouldn’t get him a second chance in the actual industry. not to mention, if a woman would’ve pulled that shit, she’d be fucking blacklisted in the industry.

josh should’ve gotten through to lives. there’s just. no question there, by anyone. josh should’ve gotten to lives.

given how many people actually came back this year from previous years, we should’ve seen more of them.

cheryl should have never gotten groups. (menn on point, REALLY????)

judges’ houses shouldn’t have been live.

ngl, though, i’m like, really mad about the x factor right now. this season was setting itself up to be SO GOOD, like auditions were INCREDIBLE this year and there were less jokes acts that got very far. i mean, yeah, there were definitely issues with them pushing specific acts really early on, but otherwise, it was just SO GOOD and i had such high hopes for this season!!! grimmy and rita were doing so well as judges!!!! there were SO MANY acts that i feel in love with early on!!!!

and then the judges’ categories were revealed and things slipped a little, but after the six chair challenge, i still felt okay about things. but then like. judges’ houses were a fuckin trainwreck. i know the producers have a massive influence over the show, i get it, but GOD, it’s to the point that i don’t even feel like i’m watching the judges make any actual decisions for themselves.

and i LOVE alien and 4th impact, despite their terrible name changes, but it’s just SOOO obvious that they’re pushing for one of them to win. look at how many girl groups got through to bootcamp, to the six chair challenge. they’re banking on a girlband this year because of the climate of the industry right now and yeah, it makes sense, but it’s also super transparent what they’re doing and as an audience member, i don’t like being played.

mason noise is only there because of the producers wanting ~drama~ or controversy or some shit and it’s a joke that grimmy is going to end up taking the fall for. and louis (who i love and adore, mind you) literally overshadowed everything. and they played it up!!!! to get viewers!!!!!!! and i get that, i do, but god, the show isn’t ever about the judges!!!!!! and then in all of the interviews, he’s barely talking about the Actual Contestants or anything and all anyone cared about was louis, including the x factor producers and marketing team and social media team. and having judges’ houses live pretty much ruined everything that made judges’ houses (which is something unique to the x factor over other singing competitions, and therefore important to the show’s success) special and intimate and real.

i just feel super let down and it’s hitting really hard because it’s something i’ve started to look forward to every week and this season had all of the potential in the world and now i can’t find a reason to force myself to watch live shows. and i probably won’t.

honestly i’m not going to watch x factor live shows bc all but two of the acts i actually care about didn’t make it through to lives, BUT i watched the clip of mason getting picked just to hear everyone booing him and honestly that’s the best thing that’s ever happened
