With peeling paint and red-brown rust, the pipes cascade down the walls of the buildings that narrow the space in the alleyway. Out of all places, this had to be the one that he was challenged to a duel at late hours. Battle City began and there’s been all kinds of duelists roaming in all the places of Domino City. But normally, Yami sees them at the Plaza and not at secluded areas like this. But whatever, an environment like this isn’t scaring him. The man who challenged him, however, isn’t playing fair. Instead of betting their locator cards and rarest card, the man insists that they hand over their whole deck. At that second, steps can be heard from behind the dumpsters as two more men appear in ragged outfits and join the first one. The first man also adds that they might need an additional duel disk as well with an impudent grin on his face.
“That’s against the rules!” Yami snaps, his hands balling into a fist and his gaze cast into a glare. But that doesn’t seem to faze the men. They corner him until he accepts to duel. Well, if he plays his cards right, he will win the duel. He won’t want the other’s whole deck, however.
“Fine then. Let’s get this over with.” Seeing as how they won’t let him go that easily, the pharaoh agrees. He’s not one to run from a challenge either. Even if the bet is absurd. Mist dances upon shoes, reaching above the ankles. In this eerie scene there is a chance to learn how to silence fear and for one to see into the weakness of the opponent. And that’s what Yami is striving for. This man believes he will be in the finals in a jiffy. But the pharaoh smirks and voices, “Not with that attitude.” This creates pulsating tension in the atmosphere as the duel begins.
Halfway through the duel, the man realizes he’s losing the upper hand. His strategy is figured out and his traps are harpooned away in an instant, giving priority to Yami’s monsters to attack and wipe out the ones on the opposing end. The man is terrified, refusing the idea of losing. Not only that but he assumes he’ll end up having to give away his deck as he betted. For that, he is prompted into aggression, telling his companions to strip Yami away from his deck and duel disk. How unfair that is.
As the men come running, for a split second an iridescent eye manifests on the pharaoh’s forehead. Their attempt will be stopped, albeit not in the way Yami plans to. Before the foes could reach, Yami feels himself being swept away. The men land in the same spot where he was on previously. Everything happens within an instant that the pharaoh needs a moment to perceive the information from his eyes. Magic on pause, eyes widened, one hand holding the cards he was going to use. He quickly retrieves them inside his pocket on his belt before they fall out. The rest of his deck is still placed within the duel disk.
“Yuusei—“ He whispers under his shallow breath. It’s like for a second there he forgot to breathe. As he inhales, his one hand is instinctively clutching on Yuusei’s arm. He exhales softly, his heart is racing and the glowing eye disappears from his forehead. The men are asking each other who might the newcomer be. They show visible displeasure that their target have been moved away.
“When did you—“ Yami is too stunned to speak but glad to see the other. “Thank you.” He adds.
