My experience on the "location" thing as someone who just got out of a really bad relationship, and I have no idea how this could be relevant to you but just a tie-in:

It was presented as very natural; my family and I all live on different continents and travel often so we all track each other's location, and his family all shares an iCloud so, we were used to it as a concept - so why not just share location?

When I broke up with him at last, the first thing I did was stop sharing the iCloud location, because I knew he would be obsessing over it and weaponizing it (more than he already did) - and it was none of his business anymore! HOWEVER: I forgot that Snapchat shares location, I know you can change settings, but I have it at what I believe are default 8-hours sharing location from last log in (or, I set it to that years and years ago). So, what I found from mutual friends is, he would log in just to check my status there.

My point is, there are definitely inadvertent ways you could share location with someone / an ex could see.. if that helps plot wise...

Honestly like, not to drop everything abt this fic LMFAOOOO but the way I have it set up is that reader and the ex have been talking for a bit, she’s decided that she’s gonna break it off with his friend that night and wasn’t intended for it to happen at his place anyway so she doesn’t think it’ll seem like anything’s up, but she ends up having a cold come on pretty suddenly before she can rlly break it off and the best friend (who is naturally. V much in love w her rip) brings her home to care for her and she doesn’t think abt the location thing at all until the next morning when the reveal happens—which, ironically, is all info u could probably scrounge around in for a lie that makes sense, but hey she’s sick and like I mentioned in the tags probably wanted to come clean about everything anyway. So I think an active choice to share her location works best w everything!
