I'm not trying to be rude by any means I'm just trying to see your side, but how can "Gender [..] is a marketing scheme" be considered a good statement I'm confused. Is it the way that it's said or like the context?
Gender itself might not be a marketing scheme as such, but gender roles most certainly are, and the way gender, gender conformity and the gender binary are brutally enforced is done for (among other things) marketing reasons. Understanding that these things are enforced upon us is important.
The context is such that Eric is pointing out that the differences between genders are to a very large degree not an actual thing; it’s an enforced, artificial thing, done with specific goals in mind.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I am no gender abolitionist or w/e they call it, but that’s not what Eric is advocating either. That quote simply points out that many of the perceived differences between the binary genders are gender roles and conformity enforced for marketing purposes.
I want to live in a world where people can have their gender identity in peace and no-one questions them on it based on appearance or interests; pointing out that such gendering mostly happens for reasons such as marketing is a good thing.
