When people act like DPD is something they can bully out of you, as in, "Oh, you just rely too much on your mommy! We need to poke and prod you for the only way you've learned how to survive rather than actually give you a reason to believe your words have value." Even doctors reinforce your sense of helplessness when they defer to your older companion for all questions and confirmations about you, ignoring you and teasing you to your face because they see you as this sheltered little kid who never had to "grow up."
I don't think a lot of people realise the almost vicious cycle of DPD. It's incredibly humiliating to be treated like a child when you finally try to stand up for yourself, and the complete refusal of others to see you as a person worthy of their respect only pushes you deeper into the mindset that you can only be heard and cared for if you let someone else speak for you.
This is Cluster C saneism.
Despite DPD being about dependency, you should be taken seriously. After all, you are a person.
You, as an individual, should be respected and heard. About the first point you’ve made, unfortunately, people think disorders are something they can bully you out of, like you haven’t decided to be “normal” by their standards. There is no easy solution for that.
But I can assure you, even if you don’t believe it, that your words do have value.
