Born to Dance
A/N: This is based on the prompt I received "Future drabble - K&M teach K's granddaughter how to dance" it turned out so long and ended up a oneshot instead, enjoy! They had been eating for twenty minutes when the songs abruptly switched from Latin salsa music to CeeLo Green. Her guess was the singer had finally recognized where he had seen her and Maks before. People had been dancing throughout the other songs and many were still on the floor next to the band of live music in the middle of the restaurant. "That's our song!" Kirstie said excitedly turning to Maks who was sitting to her right, giving him a look that read 'we have to dance'. Lillie sighed. "Don't, Mom." Kirstie laughed. "Don't what?" She asked pretending not to know what Lillie was warning her against. "Don't dance, just don't." Lillie said practically begging for her not to draw attention to them. "Oooh, do it Grama!" Isabella, Lillie and Nick's daughter, exclaimed excitedly. She turned to her left and looked down at the little girl who was sitting beside her. "You want to see me and Papa dance?" She asked, eyeing Lillie out of the corner of her eye. She loved annoying her daughter and who could resist the little pleading eyes of her granddaughter? Isabella nodded enthusiastically. "Alright well, princess Belle has spoken, guess we have to." Maks said with a smile. Isabella beamed at him. Princess Belle was her favorite because their names were so similar and she loved when he called her that. Beauty and the Beast was her favorite movie. She said they reminded her of her Grama and Papa. And as Maks got up and offered Kirstie a hand as she scooted out of the booth as well and they Cha-cha'ed into the open area that everyone was using as a dance floor it almost felt like the ballroom scene from the movie to Isabella. Kirstie and Maks didn't miss a single beat. Isabella watched as they danced, grinning from ear to ear and she could see Lillie was smiling at how happy Isabella was even though she had been against them causing a scene. ------ The song ended and the crowd erupted into applause but Isabella was the loudest of them all. "THAT WAS AWESOME!" She said so happy as they returned to the table. "I want to dance like you!" She exclaimed. Maks and Kirstie both laughed. "You want to dance like that?" Maks asked. The little girl nodded. "Just like that, Papa!" "You'll have to come with us to work and we can teach you one day. Would you like that?" Kirstie asked. The little girl again shook her head. Kirstie and Maks both turned to face Lillie and Nick. "Looks like you two have a dancer on your hands." They said proudly. ------- That summer Lillie and Nick had decided to move to New York to be closer to Kirstie and Maks and Isabella came to the dance studio for the first time, well the first time being old enough to remember. She was five now and was determined to learn how to dance just like her grandparents. "And this is the practice room." Maks announced, holding the door open so Kirstie and Isabella could walk in hand-in-hand. Isabella's eyes lit up as she let go of her Grandma's hand and ran to the middle of the room, spinning around, the tutu she had on swaying. "I LOVE IT!" She exclaimed. She did love it, out of the entire tour of Dance with Me her grandparents had given her the practice room was her favorite next to the ballroom. Maks and Kirstie both laughed and gave each other a look. It was almost like the little girl had dancing in her blood. "What song do you want to dance to?" Maks asked. She thought for a moment before choosing. Maks found the song on his phone, hooked his phone to the speaker in the corner of the room and pressed pause. Maks and Kirstie had already choreographed a dance that would work for practically any song together the night before and already had it memorized to teach her. "Are you ready?" Kirstie questioned. Isabella nodded. "Okay, dancing takes practice so you can't be upset if you don't get it on the first try." She explained. "I won't!" The little girl assured her. "The first time we are going to show you the basic moves and help you copy what we do, sound good?" Maks asked. "Sounds good! Now can we dance already?" Isabella replied, completely impatient. The first go around went slow with them instructing her to put this hand here and that foot there, Maks and Kirstie both helping her by placing her how she should be. They fed her constant reassurance though with 'that was perfect' and 'good, just like that.' Towards the end she seemed to have done a pretty good job for her first try. "Are you ready to do it again?" Kirstie asked, always making sure she wanted to keep going. She nodded enthusiastically. The second time they had to help her with less body placements and the third time she was following Kirstie's movements perfectly as she still stood in front and modeled the moves like a stage mom during a pageant show. Maks just say back and watched. By the fourth time she was hardly looking at Kirstie at all, totally engrossed in the dance, concentrating. You could see it in her face. She was focused. A tiny, serious, focused dancer. The fifth time she did it on her own with no cues while Kirstie and Maks both sat back and watched amazed at how fast of a learner she was. After the song ended Maks picked the little girl up, spinning her around. "You did it! That was PERFECT, Belle!" Maks exclaimed as he kissed her on the forehead and then passed her onto Kirstie. "That was super good!" Kirstie agreed, spinning her in a congratulatory circle as well. "I think you're even better than your Grandma!" Kirstie admitted. "Really?!" Isabella questioned, beaming so proudly. "Oh yeah, you are definitely WAY better than Grandma." Maks chimed in. "Hey, be nice!" Kirstie said as she balanced Isabella on her hip slightly so could free a hand to smack Maks playfully. "Yeah, Papa, be nice!" Isabella said in her Grandma's defense. Maks laughed, "I am nice!" He defended. "Grama and you are still the best dancers.. forever!" The little girl insisted. They both chuckled. "Whatever you say, but we still think you're great." Kirstie assured her, setting her back down on the ground. "You are, Belle. We teach dance all of the time and I've never seen anyone learn that fast." Maks told her. He taught other five year olds but she was definitely not on a five year old's level. "I am a fast learner!" She said as she nodded in agreement. "Now can we do another one?" "A new routine?" Maks questioned. Isabella nodded. "Please?" Maks contemplated for a second wondering if she could handle a dance from his six year old class then said yes. They began to practice and the new dance only took her four times to do it perfectly all on her own. He and Kirstie were both astonished. "That was too easy!" She said afterwards. "Can we do another one?" "Are you sure? You're going to be awfully tired tonight." Kirstie warned. Isabella didn't care. "I'm positive!" They showed her a routine from the seven year old class. That seemed to finally be one that challenged her, taking her eight tries to do it all on her own. ---- After the day was over they all set together and rested on the studio floor as they waited for Lillie and Nick to come and pick up Isabella. "So did you like dancing?" Kirstie asked. "Yes!" She replied. "I LOVED IT!" "Do you want to do it again?" She nodded enthusiastically. Kirstie laughed. She never seemed to run out of energy, Kirstie thought to herself. "I still can't believe you did that last routine so good. Did you know that was from our seven year old dance class?" Maks asked. "Really? I dance like I'm seven?!" She asked amazed. He and Kirstie both nodded. "It was almost like you were born to dance." Kirstie said. "I think I was." She agreed. Maks smiled, proudly. This must be what it feels like to have a daughter, he thought. ------ When Lillie and Nick finally showed up, they told them everything and Isabella danced all three dances she learned for them by memory, never missing a beat. They were just as astonished as Kirstie and Maks were. They definitely had not been expecting her to be that good when they left the house this morning. After discussing it with Isabella and making sure she absolutely wanted to,they enrolled her in her grandparents' dancing class. She was the only five year old in the seven year old group and she was a hundred percent head over heels for dancing. They had a prodigy on their hands and all four of them knew it.
"Picture" Songfic
A/N: This is slightly based on the song Picture the Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow Duet I’ve wanted to make something about them to this in forever. This just sorta happened not the best but I attempted. More sad than I originally intended, sorry. 6AM. It was 6AM when he tossed and turned. Couldn’t sleep anymore. He hadn’t been able to sleep past six since their breakup. He was so used to Kirstie’s alarm going off at that time that his internal alarm clock simply didn’t allow it. He wanted to still sleep but he just couldn’t. He groggily rested his palm against his forehead, his head killing him. He felt like he hadn’t seen the sun shine in three damn days although he had just been out the night before trying to drink away the pain.
He was also thankful the girl who had kept him company left the previous night and hadn’t stayed. He didn’t need that right now. He didn’t need to be reminded that he had ruined his chances with the only one he ever truly loved. That he had been drowning his sorrows with different girls every night and been fueling up on whiskey to try to forget her. But he was and God he was paying for the latter at the moment.
He dug through the nightstand by the bed. Looking for Ibuprofen, anything to make his head stop pounding but then he remembered she was the one that always made sure they had medication handy when they stayed in hotels. He groaned. He should have went back home last night. He shouldn’t have got a hotel room so he didn’t have to bring the girl back to his apartment. He regretted everything and wondered if he’d ever change his ways. He pulled out his phone, typed in his password and clicked his pictures.
The last picture Kirstie had sent him popped up on the screen and he stared at it. Taking in everything he had lost. He thought about how much he missed her and how she had looked so together when he had ran into her the day before. Like this wasn’t bothering her at all as she gave him back his key. His voice had caught in his throat he hadn’t known what to say. He knew there wasn’t anything he could say that would change anything. He had been on his way off with Val to drink her away when she showed up. He didn’t know why she was in town but it certainly wasn’t to be with him. He looked at her picture as he cried.
Beep…beep…beep….BEEP…. Kirstie reached over and shut off the alarm clock she had forgotten to switch off the night before. It was early. Too early and she had drank way too much last night. She dug through her bedside table, reaching for some Ibuprofen to make her headache stop and downed it with some water as she thought back to the night before.
She had ended up in New York. She wasn’t thrilled to be there knowing Maks was in town but she had promised Zang Toi she’d come and see his last show months ago and she always kept good on promises. Everything about being there was hard. Not seeing Maks. Not talking to him. But it was over and she finally took the last step and went to give his key back to him yesterday.
She had called Nicole and asked if Maks was home and Nicole had said he was out at the gym for the next hour, that he had texted her earlier. She had thought that it would be the perfect time to do it. Leave the key under the mat to his apartment and it would be over. No talking, no nothing.
That’s not how it turned out though. She and Maks had their first run in since everything happened. He and Val had been coming out of the apartment building right as she was about to go in. They both looked stunned she was there. But she had put up her best facade and acted like it didn’t bother her at all. It was the same ole same ‘how have you been’ like nothing had happened and she gave him back his key. Just politely said she didn’t need it anymore. He hadn’t argued, hadn’t really said anything and then she got in her car and left heading to a local Scientology session she found to take her mind off of it.
It had hit her that night though and she tried to heal her heartache with cheap hotel wine while telling Kelly and Nicole everything. Nicole said how sorry she was and that she really thought he’d still be at the gym. Kirstie had told her it wasn’t her fault and that she was going to call the actor guy who had had a crush on her forever and invite him over. That she was done. She was ready to move on and he wasn’t that bad.
They advised her against it and after a few more drinks she had attempted to call Maks. Screamed she didn’t care. That she couldn’t do any of this anymore and she didn’t understand why she was living life this way. They had grabbed her phone before she had a chance to dial his number. Told her that she couldn’t call him until she was sober.
This morning she was thankful she hadn’t invited that guy over because she wouldn’t be able to do what she was currently doing if she was lying next to him. She was starring at the wallpaper on her phone. The last picture Maks had texted her. Admiring him. Thinking how much she missed him as she teared up.
She laid in bed and thought about him for a long time. She almost called him. Her fingers hovered over the call button as she thought what she wanted to say. About how she wanted to tell him that she swears she would change, that she loved him and wanted him to come back home.
He laid thinking the exact same thing as he hovered over the talk button himself. All they had to do was make the final move, press the button and say their feelings. But neither wanted to be the one to make that desperate call and neither of them did.

“This is just crazy.” Kirstie said laughing as she walked along the Florida beach with Maks.
It was dark and there was breeze off the ocean and she thought she was going to freeze to death as Maks held her hand as they strolled, the moonlight shining down on them and the street light guiding their way.
