We've been a team since 2012, although some of us have participated since 2011.

On a scale of 1 (Minimal, just during the hunt and only related to Gish) to 5 (Best friends forever), how would you describe your team’s familiarity with each other?

Is there anything in particular your team is looking for? (Hobbies, talents, locations, etc.)

We'd love a few team members in Asia, Australia, South America, or Canada. Photo or video editing is always a plus!

What are your expectations, if any, in regards to items completed during the hunt?

We expect everyone to use all their free time during the week for the hunt. This means, aside from sleep, work, and anything else important you have to do, we want you to be working on items. There is no number of items required for each member, but our members tend to complete between 5-15 items per person.

Our team has been going hardcore since 2012. We were runners up in 2013, we've had at least one picture in the coffee table book every year, we have tons of stuff in the GHOF, and we've been retweeted by Gishwhes and Misha several times. This year we've had several members leave due to personal reasons and time constraints, so we're looking for fresh blood! We all get along very well, and we have a great system in place to organize everything during the hunt. We don't mind if you're brand new to this or if you've done it every single year, as long as you're willing to work hard and have fun!

We have been gishing since 2015 under our current name and the core group started in 2014.

3-4 (we have some new people this year but the core group knows each other well).

Locations in or close to New York City, or Sydney Australia

What are your expectations, if any, in regards to items completed and team involvement during the hunt?

We expect each team member to complete 15-20 items (obviously leniency for more difficult items that take more time).

5, when possible we hope that most members can take the week off to fully commit to gishing.

How long has your team been together? 

The team was formed in 2015 though some of us have gished together since 2014.

On a scale of 1 (Minimal, just during the hunt and only related to Gish) to 5 (Best friends forever), how would you describe your team’s familiarity with each other?

 This isn’t easily quantifiable because this varies from person to person.  We probably range from 1 to 3.  Some of us have met in person outside of gishing.  In the off season, we do ask that everyone be responsive to team communications and participate in our team challenges.  Beyond that, we are pretty laid back and let each teammate determine their own level of personal engagement.

Is there anything in particular your team is looking for? (Hobbies, talents, locations, etc.)  

Our tumblr “about us” page linked above describes our ideal teammate.  We are open to all demographics (age, race, gender, sexuality, religion, political beliefs, location, etc.)   We view location as a potential bonus, but ultimately we are going to choose the person who is the best fit for the team.  Our team divides editing, so we do value photography and photo/video editing skills.  However, many of us have learned editing skills from gishing, so we are willing to work with people who are motivated to learn.  We plan to have low pressure team challenges in the off season that are meant to help build on your creativity and skillset. 

What are your expectations, if any, in regards to items completed and team involvement during the hunt?  

We expect our teammates to have time to gish the majority of the hunt and to communicate with the group once daily at absolute minimum.  While generally we value quality over quantity, the reality is that in order to have a shot at winning we must complete most of the tasks.  The past few years we completed >90% of the tasks with an average task completion per person of 13 to 14, but this will vary depending on the number of tasks on any given year.  We encourage our teammates to aim for double digits.

On a scale of 1 (Very little) to 5 (As much as possible) How much of the hunt week do you expect team members to commit to Gish? 

5  - We understand that people may have certain things they cannot reschedule during the hunt.  Most of our teammates do have the full week off for the hunt, but exceptions can be made if you don’t think it will impact your overall contribution to the team.  However, if you are working the majority of the week, that usually doesn’t jive well with highly competitive gishing.  If you have questions about your specific situation, don’t hestitate to ask us about it in your application.  We try to be realistic but not unreasonable.

How many spots are you looking to fill?  

Two.  We may have more spots open up later depending on people’s schedules, but no guarantee.  If the application link is up on the tumblr page, we are actively recruiting!

Gish Team Finder Team Types

What’s a team type?

There are many different ways to compete in Gishwhes, and as such there are many different types of teams! This may be the single most important thing to look for when you’re building your team. One of the easiest ways to have conflict within a team is to have a mismatch of competitiveness levels. To hopefully help you find what you’re looking for, on this site we’ve narrowed it down to six team types:

Previous winner/ runner up: These are the teams that have been recognized by Gishwhes as a winner or runner up in the past. Due to the nature of teams changing, reforming, and rebranding you may see a team name you don’t recognize in this category. That’s because here, we’re counting any team that has 8 or more players who have been a winner or runner up as eligible for this category. If you’re incredibly competitive, these are excellent teams and individuals to look at.

Competitive: These teams want to win! They’re going for gold, and are ready to go all-in for this year’s hunt. Full of winners and runner-ups in the making, don’t discount these guys just because there’s no official title yet. Remember, new teams make the winner/runner up list every year!

Semi-Competitive: Still competitive, but not quite as much as some others. These teams often aim for inclusion in the coffee table book and Gishwhes Hall of Fame. Because of this, you may see specific guidelines and goals in regards to the quality of items submitted. If you’re looking for some recognition without the stress of an extremely competitive hunt, this may be what you’re looking for!

Just-For-Fun: Like the name says, these teams just want to have fun! These teams are excellent for first-year gishers and those who are less about the destination and more about the journey. They may have schedule conflicts during hunt week, they may not, but these teams are excellent for a more relaxed Gishwhes experience.

No pressure, just do what you can: These are the mellowest teams around. Ranging from teams full of first years, to people working full time during the hunt, to participants that just aren’t really sure what this whole ‘Gishwhes’ thing is about, these are the teams that are happy with whatever you can bring to the table, even if all you’re able to do is pop in and say ‘hey’ once in a while.

Schwag only: These are the teams who have no intention of trying to complete items. They’re in it for that sweet, sweet registration schwag and nothing else. Individuals may decide to complete an item or two just for kicks, but there is zero expectation of completing items or sometimes even contacting other team members. If you want to register at a higher tier level to get yourself some exclusive gishy items without having to worry about disappointing a team full of people, this is the team type for you!
