27/04/15 Day 1- Pancho Tours
Our first day at work seemed very nerv-racking, we were told to arrive at the meeting point at 10.30am which we would meet one of our organisers which would guide us to the work place! I set the alarm at 9am leaving plenty of time to eat breakfast and get ready. We left the apartment at 10.10am leaving enough time to walk to the meeting point and to get prepared;we arrived early (demonstrating COC2 and COC6)
Appearance is extremely important as it gives the first impression of the person. Today I did not know what the company had set up for us and that’s why a decided to wear smart black trousers, a smart top, a cardigan and comfortable shoes. (COC3) I also packed my bag with pens and a notepad to be prepared and take notes when needed! (COC6)
Once we arrived at the hostel which the company is based at, we had an induction talk telling us about the company, what they do and what they would like from us which I took notes for. We were asked to share numbers and emails which we can all keep in contact with each-other. Once the talk was over, Dario (company organiser) set us an activity which we had to work in small groups and navigate the different hostels around the city which they work with and take a picture with the receptionist, asked for their names and connect to their wifi. This was a good activity as we were able to develop our communication skills (COC1). I worked with Lily and Chloe. We firstly decided to use the internet and spot on the map where each destination was and work out which one we would head to first and how we would get there. (Demonstrating COC6). As we were not very familiar with the city and all the streets we found it challenging and it was good to be working as part of a team!
Eventually we finished the task set within the first hour and we were able to go back to our apartment and have a siesta (COC4).
In our induction talk we were told that within the job be would be required to sell and promote excursions and tours. To be able to promote the excursions and tours, we’d need to have the experience which they invited us to go on the flamenco tour which was at 8.30pm. We arrived early again showing our reliability. It was interesting to see the Spanish tradition and it was very different to what we are used to; it involved lots of singing and dancing. After watching the flamenco, I am able to understand more of what I will be selling and promote it to tourists.
