How to put accent marks over letters while typing
Ever found yourself wanting to spell Pokémon correctly but couldn't because of that little mark over the e? Or perhaps you need to type something in Spanish, Portuguese, French, etc. and need an accent mark to avoid saying the wrong thing.
English QWERTY keyboards don't appear capable of fancy accented letters at first glance, but there are some shortcuts that work in Microsoft Word and possibly other word processors (but not on Tumblr text posts...) I'm willing to share with you. (courtesy of my Portuguese teacher):
é (right-pointing accent): Ctrl+' (quote mark) <letter>.
à (left-pointing accent): Ctrl+` (back-tick) <letter>
ñ (tilde) : Ctrl+Shift+~ <letter>
ê (circumflex or "chapezinho") : Ctrl+Shift+6 <letter>
Ü (umlaut) : Ctrl+Shfit+: <letter>
And BTW, Word is smart enough to only put accents over letters that can take them in all languages your computer knows. Presumably. I know it won't let me put an umlaut over a consonant or a tilde over anything except n, a, and o.
