Assignment #4 Reflection
Overall this assignment was really interesting in the fact that it was like a way of protesting but was definitely the one assignment I struggled with the most out of the semester. I think I struggled with this one the most because of the fact that they not only had to be displayed in a public place, but that I'm not the type of person to protest any of issues that we could of chose from. I started out in the beginning not really knowing what I was doing at all, but then talking with a classmate helped me come up with a couple ideas and the one I stuck with was that third world countries are stuck drinking unsanitary and unsafe water in order to survive often times receiving diseases or health issues associated with it, and yet the clean water that we have access to every single day, we take for granted because it's always been right there for our easy access and use. And the amount of water on average most people or households waste would be enough to give a small-medium sized village. I did a lot of research on what people waste the most water doing, and it comes down to having a shower, leaving the tap running when brushing our teeth, washing dishes in a dishwasher, and a washing machine. In the end I decided to leave my little signs and water bottles (one with dirty water and one with clean water) on top of water fountains around the college to see if it grabbed students attention. Most students were often in a hurry or a rush and didn't notice, but the ones who did looked very interested and stared at it for a moment. I think this assignment was a great way to show what was going on in not only our world but others as well.
Because drinking water is important
Ways in which drinking water has its pros and cons
Assignment #3
Reflection: This assignment was probably my favourite one we've done this semester even though it took a lot for me to really get going and be interested in it at first. Throughout the beginning of the assignment I really struggled with the adobe indesign software we were using. I was semi-familiar with some of the tools and the software due to having photoshop but still loved it and worked through it in the end. I really loved how we got to play around with grids, text, placements, fonts, sizing, being precise, hierarchy, alignment, . I feel that it made me realize more of how much work goes into something like that, and some mistakes are quite noticeable if you're aware of type mistakes or type crimes. For the topic I chose Kernels popcorn and made the lists out of all of the different flavours, which was neat because it felt like I could of been designing something for the company. One thing that I had ended up noticing in my overall outcome after printing was my alignment with my numbers and text in the bottom right corner of my page, ended up being off compared to how the other two text boxes were lined up. I definitely would of reprinted to fix those mistakes had the cost of printing been a little cheaper. I didn't like how hard I struggled with the process of starting but now looking back it was very beneficial and I'm definitely more confident in what I can do now that I've played around with it which is what really ended up working well for me. What I still struggle with though is going straight to my final product. I did play with different layouts and reference images in the beginning but once I found something that worked, I stuck with it. Next time I think I would do my planning more so on paper, or have someone review my work before it's printed to save on time and cost.
This is another great layout and example of how it's easy and appealing to read. It isn't too busy but it isn't too boring or plain either. I really like this one because of the colour on the black background.
