$1/Minute Design is an initiative founded in 2010 by Ana Llorente and Davey Whitcraft. It is motivated by a desire to strip the act of designing of its perceived elite status. $1/Minute design aims to situate the design studio in the community in which it operates by creating public access to design. The initiative offers design to the public in a model more familiar to a store. Clients are invited to walk in the studio door and hire a designer on the spot, at the moment, for $1/Minute. Clients can generally expect to receive the design the same day.
For this edition of $1/Minute we installed a working studio in the lobby of TypoSF. Ana Llorente, Emi Tamaru and I, along with various guests worked each day during the conference on commissions from conference visitors. We picked a student from the audience's name from a hat at the end of the conference and gave them the proceeds. Below you can listen to the jingle we made for this event. Honestly I think I'm in love with Emmet Byrne. I don't know why (other than being talented and intelligent and cute) it felt like crush at first sight. I'd move to Minnesota in a minute. Bet he's married or gay.

3 things I learned today at TypoSF - Arya Stark Style
1 - An artist who is present is better than an extremely talented artist who has checked out.
2 - Kerning for the wEB IS POSSIBLE. ( though not entirely supported just yet )
3 - You can't stop people from being evil, but you can overwhelm them with kindness.
