Remington Rand Portable Model 5. Advertised by Remington as "the world's best-seller", it cost $65US when it was first released in 1934.
Unearthed from the depths of the basement, this typewriter is now up and running after many trips to the hardware store & watching several helpful YouTube videos (plus buying that lovely purple typewriter ribbon from Toronto Typewriters!). I love manual typewriters for how accessible & solid they are. I once read a Perry Mason mystery where a man was beaten to death with a portable typewriter: your Macbook Air could never!!
