WAY TOO SOON! RTARLsman preseason top 5 list

The season actually starts today but I guess I haven’t found the courage to quit this stupid game. That’s the real story here. Print!

1. BRYCE LOVE, RB, Stanford

If he can actually stay healthy he’s a threat to break some records and put up some stats. If he gets a little bit injured early on don’t be surprised if the QB and the WR become Heisman contenders. I’m doing this on my phone (again) so if it seems half-assed beyond the norm that’s probably why.

2. ED OLIVER, DT, Houston

Oliver is the best player in the country but he might be in the Khalil Mack zone where his teammates fail him enough that I forget how ridiculous he is when it’s time to name the winner. Also, I’m enough of a coward to be drawn in by a 2,500 yard rusher even if I don’t forget.

3. RODNEY ANDERSON, RB, Oklahoma

I’m fully prepared for this guy to run away with the Heisman in the same way that his then teammate Baker Mayfield did last year. Anderson is a physical freak playing in a league that, ahem, doesn’t value defense.

4. AHMMON RICHARDS, WR, Miami

He’s got some drops issues but if he fixes those and stays on the field for 12 games he has all of the tools to be a perfect WR1. Sure, there are A LOT of other great receivers this year and I’m sure this is partially homerism but I think Richards will end up the best of the bunch when we look back a decade from now.

5. TYREE JACKSON, QB, Buffalo

Once upon a time there was a Buffalo player that I didn’t choose as the ultimate winner for my Sparty version of these posts and I still rue that choice. Jackson could very well be the next Logan Thomas but the idea that he could be a legitimate first round-type of talent is too good for me to just ignore. For now.

WAY TOO SOON RTARLSMAN OFFSEASON PRESEASON LIST OF POSSIBLE CANDIDATES FOR AN AWARD THAT WILL BE GIVEN IN DECEMBER!

OK, here’s what we’ve got so far with no actual depth charts released for 2018 and no idea of what will actually happen in any games. This should be pretty spot on.

1. ED OLIVER, DL, Houston

The way Soused was for Lamar Jackson is how I’ve been for Ed Oliver. He is an unbelievable monster who can single-handedly destroy his opponents. Tom Herman didn’t actually accomplish a ton in Houston but he got Oliver to stay home and that’s worth a lot.

2. TYREE JACKSON, QB, Buffalo

Warren Sharp started breaking down some video of Jackson last week and now the dam has burst. He’s the best quarterback in Buffalo right now and he’s just got to show some year over year improvement to be a 1st round caliber draft prospect. Is he actually good? I don’t know but the last time I got excited about a player on Buffalo things turned out pretty well. I’m referring to Khalil Mack who I sold out on the strength of a bad loss in a conference championship game but who would have otherwise been the, uh, TVFsman Trophy Award winner.

3. NICK BOSA, EDGE, Ohio State

4. TUA TAGOVAILOA, QB, Alabama

He’s not even technically the starter yet but if anybody on Bama is gonna make me look past the uniform and see the outrageous singular talent that he possesses this is the guy.

5. JOE JACKSON, EDGE, Miami

He’s a monster on the edge and I think the Canes will weather losing defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski reasonably well. I think Gerald Willis is a better talent than either Kendrick Norton or RJ McIntosh but talent has never really been the issue for the, I believe, 12th year senior (last 5 at Miami.) So Willis can eat up space on the inside to free things up for Jackson and Jon Garvin on the outside so Miami has a chance to defend their team crowns for sacks. And Jackson should be good for about 15 of those.

6. CLEMSON DEFENSIVE LINE, DL, Clemson

I think Clelin Ferrell is the one to watch but Christian Wilkins could put things all together and be on the Ed Oliver level.

7. KHALIL TATE, QB, Arizona

He might just be a gimmick but if he’s not and that 6 game stretch that put him on the map was the real Khalil Tate then he’s RTARLsman material! My faith is low but I wanted to put more offensive guys on here.

8. BRYCE LOVE, RB, Stanford

My fear is that his legs are ripped off during his 50th or 60th carry in week 1.

9. CAM AKERS, RB, FSU

I’m not sure Willie Taggert is up to righting the ship in Tallahassee in his first year but I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t lean heavily into Cam Akers for at least 1,300 rushing yards.

10. WILL GRIER, QB, West Virginia

Boom or bust in the way that Chad Kelly was boom or bust. He may be great in the NFL he may be awful or he may just not be a prospect at all but he’s fun to watch in college, at least.
