Ten years ago today, on a blazing hot Arizona morning, I met one of my very best friends. He was sitting in the park across the street from our home, tied up to a tree with a dirty pink rope. Someone had left him there, and had scribbled a note taped to his back that simply stated “no longer wanted”. He was skinny, sunburnt, and scared (scroll to the last two photos to see the day I found him). Well you know what they say about one person’s trash being another’s treasure? It’s certainly true in this case. We haven’t been parted since, and I’m sure it sounds silly to those who may not have a special animal in their lives, but Tyson was always carrying a little piece of my soul that I didn’t know I was looking for. He is my boy. My eternal co-pilot, traveling to over 30 states with me and having adventures in them all. He is the steadfast protector of my children, rarely leaving their sides, even from the time they were growing in my belly. He is my most loyal friend, my heart. I love you, little spotted cow-dog.
