5. character you were most surprised to end up writing

Possibly the number of OCs that are in When The Check Clears. I don't really like including OCs in my work, unless it's a very very minor unnamed roll. These had names and while not overly long, still significant interactions with the MC.

11. what aspect of your writing do you think has most improved since you started writing?

Definitely the quality. I don't mean in the "good writing" way, but in the actually taking time to edit and fix continuity or grammar mistakes. I've learned a lot just by writing.

I don't know if I've ever felt particularly "proud" but there are some things I've been like. Yeah. I like that:

Whatever colors had once brightened their frames were hidden beneath thick crisscrosses of welding scars and layers of labored grime that had built up when the short solvent showers they were permitted could no longer keep up: a dusty spot behind the helm, spilled oil beneath a pede, a shoulder streak of dirt; it all built up and built over as the endless effort of mining continued.

The rare solemn expression flitted across Orion’s face as he thought of what would finally end that effort.

23: Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Varric Tethras is constitutionally incapable of the kind of ego-less sincerity that cheesiness requires. Pick-up lines specifically are not Cyrus' default mode, but all he needs is a little alcohol in his system to start dropping the corniest, sappiest, overwhelmingly, embarrassingly sentimental shit. If people were flowers, I’d pick you and Did the sun come out, or did you just smile at me? type mfer.

(Esp early in their relationship, Varric has absolutely no idea how to cope with this and gets so flustered so easily & quickly, which is very good incentive for Cyrus to keep doing it.)

God, Radar gave me hell in Imperfect Balance (T, beejradarhawk established relationship). He really looked me in the eye and said "I don't WANNA fight with my boyfriends!!!!" Which is fair, but it was important.

Nothing :D Too easily distracted if there's anything on but, say, a fan!

Cyrus' dislike is easier to earn than it is to lose... One exception would be Dorian. Come Inquisition, they very much get off on the wrong foot, what with Dorian's tendency to be overly familiar, especially with his jokes (I'm still reeling from him telling Dahlian the only way she could surprise him is if she let chanters strip her naked and flog her.... dude...............), and that too slick Tevinter charm that rubs this particular version of Cyrus, with a thimble of patience for strangers on even his best days, the exact wrong way.

But Varric is convinced that they should be friends (and that Cyrus needs friends in Skyhold, all that constant glowering is bad for his skin). Wicked Eyes + Wicked Hearts helps a lot, with Cyrus generally opening up and becoming more comfortable with Dorian specifically after noting his support for Briala's rule. The two aren't as close as Cyrus and Sera (or even Cyrus & Bull as the other member of the Inner Circle that Cyrus develops a fondness for [he also respects Vivienne and Blackwall, even if he wouldn't consider them to be friends; Solas was mean to Merrill the first time she visited Skyhold and Cyrus has been glaring daggers at him ever since]) but Cyrus sincerely admires Dorian's desire to improve Tevinter & sees much of his own struggle with simultaneously identifying with and resenting Kirkwall--that question of when you will know that you have made things better, and at what (personal) cost--within Dorian
