🛡️ Who jumps in front of danger for the other without thinking?
OH it’s definitely guts… she’s impulsive. this characteristic used to drive casca insane and probably always will to some degree!! she literally fell off a cliff for casca because of this! obviously guts is a good fighter but also casca’s an overthinker and can’t find it in herself to forgive guts for jumping into danger like that… the worst could have happened. I also don’t think casca just feels worthy of that kind of devotion either :/ but it’s so natural for guts, she relies on her instincts. I think they’re always hyper aware of each other when they fight together
💔 What’s the one fight that almost ended them?
it’s the same one they always have. guts always has a suspicion that casca could be happier somewhere else, and completely misunderstands that casca’s here because she wants to be, because she believes in guts’ capacity to make things happen even if guts doesn’t really believe it herself. and whenever guts brings it up, casca reads that as a rejection even though that’s not how guts meant it. also add the fact that they both became jealous and insecure as soon as they got together, bc they both still doubt that they really “deserve” the other and are always questioning whether the other’s feelings are truly requited… like… it will take them a LONG time to get over that. perhaps therapy is also in order but unfortunately it is fictionalized europe in the 14th century…
🩹 How do they comfort each other after nightmares?
u know what i think casca loves old chivalric romances so whenever she has a nightmare, guts reads from one of those big old tomes she insisted on bringing along :^) she likes the green knight. and the other stories where she already knows how it ends. for guts, the only thing that really helps is talking to casca until she feels present enough in the moment that she knows the nightmare is far away. after they leave their merc band, they both have trouble sleeping as a result of constantly having to rotate sentry duty, bad dreams of past battles etc, so sometimes they’ll just give up and pull all nighters together which is actually so terrible but! there’s a cliff by their cabin that guts likes to go to if she needs to think, and if it’s a summer night casca accompanies her, and they point out their fav stars. it’s somehow grounding to know how small they are in the grand scheme of things, and it makes the past seem very far away
