when adam opens and reads the text, he holds his breath. he stares at the words, but doesn't comprehend them for a second. there's a lot of white noise in his ears and he doesn't hear bruce calling his name until he's snapping his fingers in front of his face. adam blinks once, twice before picking up his head. 'are you okay?' bruce asks. adam says nothing, wordlessly passes his phone over to bruce to read the text from his mom that says, "Thought it'd be u & Matthew. Still sweet tho. Love u <3"
‘adam,’ bruce coos fondly. ‘your mom is brutal and i’m going to have to have a word the next time we see her.’ the we is comforting and reminds adam that he’s not alone, doesn’t have to be alone in anything he does anymore. bruce knows that adam never told his mom he likes boys, not outright, so her reply, a statement that she’s kinda known for a while and maybe had a fucking bet going on with her book club, makes bruce feel so warm and cozy inside. adam still looks like he can’t believe it, and when the flight attendants tell them to get their shit together and turn off their phones, adam types out a quick ‘love you too, flying now,’ before pocketing it and leaning into bruce.
