Can U-M really go all the way ...?
Maybe not, but you know how how these NCAA basketball tournament bracket pools work. You must do something to break off from the crowd. You have to be different, but not too different.
There are roughly 50 contestants in our pool and nobody but The Hurons (daughter Caitlin and i) have her alma mater going all the way. So, our fate rests with the Maize-and-Blue.
The big upset Friday (the first day of the tournament) was the defeat of Ohio State (a 2 seed) by Oral Roberts (a 15 seed). A fair number of people in our pool put Ohio State in the Final 4. That’s good for us because we didn’t have the Buckeyes going beyond the so-called Elite 8.
It’s called “schadenfreude,” a German word that means pleasure derived from someone else’s misfortune, which, let’s face it, is the soul of bracketology.
