After coming back from an 0-2 deficit in the second half of today's Copa México de Naciones final, the U15s ultimately lost 7-8 on PKs, a shootout that featured some nervous penalty takers on both sides. Captain Jhon Miranda finished as the tournament's top scorer with six goals in just four matches.
Just a few days after a 2-3 loss to Spain, the U15s bounced back and beat them in PKs today to reach the final of the Copa México de Naciones. Regular time ended 1-1, with Colombia's goal scored (of course) by captain Jhon Miranda, and Colombia ultimately won 6-4 in sudden death PKs.
They will face a team made up players from the Mexican third division (who beat Mexico in PKs in the other semi) in the final on Sunday.
In their final group match at the Copa México de Naciones, the U15s drew 0-0 with the United States, a result that was enough to get them into the semifinals on goal difference. For complicated reasons involving the late withdrawal of Nigeria from the tournament, the semifinal will be a rematch with Spain, who finished top of the Colombia's group; the match will be played on Friday.
In their first two matches at the Copa México de Naciones, the U15s have defeated Costa Rica 7-0 and lost to Spain 2-3. Captain Jhon Miranda has been the breakout star for Colombia so far, scoring a hat-trick against Costa Rica and both of the goals against Spain.
Colombia will finish group play tomorrow against the USA; a win will put them in the tournament semifinals.
