A few years back, I built a foundation here as the primary DJ for UAASO. Visting this place again as an audience member, It was awesome to see the new generation changing things up.

I always got love for MSU and its people.

UAASO at ECAASU

Members of the UAASO executive board were given the opportunity to attend ECAASU's 2013 Conference in New York City's Columbia University, thanks to the Student Government Association.

If you weren't there, you missed out!

A medley of performances for the opening/closing ceremonies and enlightening keynote speakers had guests cheering. Workshops were filled, offering just about everything from energetic activities to practical tips on achieving social media notoriety, Socializing, networking and job opportunities were also a big hit. If that doesn't phase you, then let's not forget about the after parties, partying hard and all night long! 

It's interesting to see the influence of the AAPI community across other campuses. Some have flourished beautifully, others have room to grow, and others have thorns on the side.

As Curtis Chin put it, this generation of Asian 3.0s will continue to grow and their voice will grow louder in American society. So look within, span across, and go above and beyond.

Sing With UAASO!

Let's face it, karaoke parlors/bars aren't cheap. Want that fun feel without emptying your wallet? UAASO's got your back! Come to our Karaoke Night event where you can sing the classics in front of a crowd- show off your beautiful voice or come out of your shell and have a good time! Thursday, February 7th in the Student Center Room 419 at 7:30pm. 

We've got plenty more in store for you, too! Our bigger events include Spring Fling Date Auction (proceeds going to Relay For Life) and Cultural Extravaganza (a showcase of traditional and modern multi-cultural wear from around the world!), so keep your eyes out for those, too.  Ashley, Secretary

UAASO Springs Into Action!

Are your classes starting well so far? Want to have fun while you're on campus? Then come be a part of UAASO! Our meetings are now Wednesdays 3-4 in Partridge 112.The academic year may be half done, but it is never too late to join in on what UAASO has to offer.

Also, be sure to check out our Hip Hop Dance Workshop, Wednesday January 30th from 7:30-11:00pm in the Student Center Formal Dining Room.

UAASO on Holidays

Here's a (delayed) recap of our last discussion for fall semester, facilitated by our lovely Culture Chair Krissy on December 5th's general meeting! Do you say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"? Do you think about your greeting before you say it? Christmas has become a dominant holiday, but we are slowly becoming more sensitive to others who either celebrate other holidays or do not celebrate holidays at all. With phrases like "Happy Winter" or "Happy Chrisma-kwanzaa-kuh" we can become more politically correct.

There's the extreme of saying "non-denominational holiday with holiday figure" (see Larry The Cable Guy's video) and the other extreme of assuming everyone celebrates Christmas, so it is best to find a happy middle.

At the end of the meeting, we played a game where we matched what countries of the world practiced what holiday tradition (between december and new year's). We also talked about people's plans for winter break.

We at UAASO hope you enjoy your winter break, and definitely stop by our last general meeting of the semester on December 12th from 3-4 in UN2025!
