Well you see I have thought long and hard about it, and the reason is that Nihilego just wants to help Emmet! :) !

(Nihilego's toxins stimulate intense emotions and cause a loss of inhibition. So I am headcanoning that Nihilego feeds off the emotions of its host, and the more intense the better. That's also why it prefers human host: they often have very intense feelings even without toxins. Nihilego isn't doing anything out of malice, it's an animal and an alien whose main goal is survival.)
