You once heard, "A House is an extension of the people within it." ...You don't... think that's true. For you at least. No, you are an extension of the House. This House. When it needs something, it calls to you - makes you deal with the issue. When you need something, it leads your feet - tried and true - to your goal. You are the cells within it, it is your flesh. You are one and the same: one heart, two bodies.

I wanted to explore The Lonely's view of themself and... their second quirk (I lied by omission earlier, they are unique in the fact it has two lil quirks)! He doesn't see himself as a person anymore - they've been in the House for so long they've forgotten what you're supposed to do, how to act as a real person.

This has led it to view itself as a part of the House. It is not a Housemaiden, it is The Dormont House's and the House's alone. They still have family, but their slot is filled and they don't remember how to be a person. One day it'll be easier for him to view themself as separate, as a real being, but it will take him a long time. For now though, it and the House have a symbiotic relationship through The Universe.

His second quirk as you can guess by the snippet is that The Lonely is always able to find where it needs to go inside the House without issue, even when they don't actually know where they're going themselves. If someone gave them say books meant to go to the storage room but forgot to tell them where they wanted them they wouldn't notice they forgot this info bc The Lonely would end up in the storage room. The House guides their feet where they need it too... or where it needs them to go. Sometimes it wakes up without realizing why and then notices a sorta tug in the back of their mind. It then let's the House guide them to the issue it has. Sometimes it's little things like a lit candle too close to some scrolls or rather big issues like someone being attacked. I should add, The House itself isn't alive, but it is a part of the Universe. It's their connection to the Universe that ties it and the Dormont House together, leading them to what they need and to what it needs. Just as Siffrin and the King have told us..

‘Community History Mural’ by Elliott Pinkney. Painted alongside 28 youth community assistants in 2002. Project support from Youth Development Program, JTPA Title IIA/B: Community Development, Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. It took a little digging to find info about this artwork. I think it’s worth sharing what I learned. LB Parks was helpful, replying to my e-mail: “Featured in the mural are local heroes that the youth participants were able to interview and/or learn about as: Josephine Gumbiner and Ernest McBride.    Elliott was an internationally acclaimed artist, he worked with others to start the contemporary LA mural movement and was an artist in resident instructor of the Watts Tower Community Center.  Elliott was a gentle, humble person who spoke nationally about the arts, Black History, and assisted in bringing the community back together after the Watts Riots.  He passed away in 2020.   The mural is marked for restoration if the overpass is not removed due to 710 Freeway expansion that was scheduled several years ago and not begun at this point.” Wrote Heather Green, Cultural Program Supervisor, Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine: “Elliott was truly a treasure as a person and artist for all he contributed.  He was a most amazing, kind and insightful person, artist and teacher that wanted our youth and community to be able to contribute, learn and be a positive part of our community and world.  He was not worried about how much he was paid but concerned more about the positive outcomes his work contributed.   He was born and lived in the South when it was so racially segregated.  He moved West and became a print shop owner and amazing printmaker and mural artist.  He lived in Compton with his wife and children.” The mural can be found under a 710 freeway overpass next to Chavez Park in Long Beach
