Be bigger. Be better. Grow.
It feels like yesterday that I joined Ubooly, yet so much has happened. Four months have gone by & I am amazed at how much personal growth I have gone through. I've had some major challenges & have pushed through them to gain successes. With that being said, I'd like to share some insight on what I've learned over the last 4 months.
Get a mentor. Marketing isn't always a breeze. You may be super at social media, baller at blogging, & anal about analytics but having a mentor is a must. You need someone who you can show your weaknesses to that will give you constructive feedback in return.
Fact: I started my job not even knowing what all I needed to do. Truthfully, I'm still learning bits & pieces every single day. That's the beauty of being in a startup, you figure out what needs to get done and you do it. My mentors have played a huge part in guiding my steps & helping me direct the Ubooly Family Cruise Ship.
Go, get a mentor.
Market yourself. If you know me, you'd know I strongly dislike Barbra Streisand, especially the fact that I look like her. However, her lyrics are my moto for marketing: "People, people who need people are the luckiest people in the world". When you're reaching out be you, be real, be personable. That person on the other end of your email, tweet or blog wants to know there's a real person who is personally reaching out to them. Make the extra effort to have a real connection.
Fact: One of my main goals for the holiday season was to land Ubooly a spot on national television, and I had my eyes set on the Today Show. After wiggling my way around the internet, I finally found the right person to contact. I reached out & was sadly rejected...twice. It took me a moment to snap back to reality & brainstorm how I could take a more personal approach. I put my thinking cap on, busted out my personality, wrote an email from the heart, and wouldn't you know it? The third time was a charm! Our segment on the Today Show aired on December 11th, driving traffic to become our 4th highest source of sales during Christmas. Boom.
Q: What do you get when you mix "Person" and "Reality"?
A: A Personality.
Use yours.
Be bigger. Be better. Grow. If you want your company to grow, then you need to personally grow. If you want it to be bigger & better, make it start with you. Don't become comfortable in your role, in fact challenge yourself to do & learn new things. Always strive to play a bigger part & do a better job. Own it & love it as if you started it.
Be bigger. Be better. Grow.
