haha sweet! Non-Mass AUs, more like move over Kakashi there’s a new 6th in town!!!
[[oh man the possibility of him being 5th tho
minato makes itachi hokage i want this ]]
Ok but serious question... Are shindens canon?? Or completely seperate to Kishimoto???
[[ The novels are supposed to be treated as canon material, yes. Kishimoto approves of the authors penning the novels and draws the cover artwork and any other artwork contained within the novel.
Fan opinion differs wildly between treating the novels as canon (which I don’t blame anyone for) and some people think that only content written by Kishimoto himself is canon (which again, i don’t blame anyone for this either, and even that is questionable, because many things within the manga are ideas from editors/assistants, etc, and not entirely his own ideas).
But TL;DR at the end of the day yes, these are supposed to be treated as 100% canon but some people will accept it, some won’t. We as a fandom tend to treat material that suits our tastes/ideas as more canon than others, and that’s not a complaint because hey, I’m guilty of that too. If this novel doesn’t focus on some forced romance and does indeed cover the material listed in the photo, you can bet I will love it.
Since the first novel is supposed to cover his childhood, it’s easy to assume the second novel will cover his time during Akatsuki, contrasting light and dark.]]

Tell your brother i said hi ;)
lol no he’ll probably punch me for talking to hiim
I would add the pic but asks can't add pic but "itachi joins akatsuki" google images brings it up the top row... Kisame was there with Sasori Pein and Konan when Itachi walked into the Akatsuki wearing his ANBU uniform meaning it was very close to the massacre when he joined, and that he was possibly introduced to Kisame before their official meeting as partners at which point Itachi even looks a bit older too. So the headcanon is still plausible I guess????
[[ That’s anime though.
That scene never happened in the manga, thus it can’t actually count.
Itachi and Kisame’s first official meeting is as Kisame described in his flashback, on the bridge over the water infested with sharks.
And I’ve gone over the debate with Itachi’s hair length= his estimated age, and this one fails because Kishi is entirely inconsistent with the length of Itachi’s bangs (go back to chapter 403 where Itachi is shown again during the massacre, with present length bangs).
However, if this scene did indeed occur within the manga, I’d like to be directed towards the chapter number.
**I’d like to add, I have nothing against the headcanon that Kisame gave it to him. I thought that was an amazing headcanon considering the mystery behind this necklace. I even shared it myself and have written about it. But canon proves this wrong, so it would be wrong of me to hold onto a clearly false fact. ]]
