I spent last Sun evening with the enthusiastic team from LOPELAB, who mobilised the community along Keong Siak Road to transform a stretch of the road into a temporary public space. It was inspiring to see people from all walks of life sharing their passion and ideas to benefit the larger community, volunteering their time, networks and other resources, or simply being there to lend support – there was even a group of cyclists who intentionally planned a pitstop at the event! Whether people were drawn by the tunes from our local musicians, or the idea of catching a movie at a temporary street cinema under the stars (and street lights), it was amazing to see what can happen when people put their hearts and minds together for a common purpose. I look forward to more groups creating more of such opportunities to come together in their neighbourhoods.
