Relationship Words in Uelo

So, a big post about all the ways to talk about relationships in Uelo. It seemed appropriate, since Valentine's Day is coming up next week, and I haven't done any linguistics posts in a long time.

So, this post covers the three verbs that are used most commonly, as well as some of the other words derived from them.

  Oradže = platonic love, i.e. close friendship

Šaladže = romantic love

Haθadže = sexual attraction

  With these three verbs and a handful of adverbs, you can say quite precisely how you feel about someone. Also, there’s a commonly used compound verb orahaθadže, which is pretty much what it looks like—a non-romantic sexual relationship between friends. The other compounds are possible, but I didn’t find them so useful since both šaladže and haθadže often are lumped together under the former in what we would traditionally think of as “love” (at least according to cultural assumptions).

La zym oraa = Dude, I love you (very, very applicable to bromance)

La zym šalaa = I love you!

La zym haθaa = I find you physically attractive

 Some of the most commonly used derivatives are:

 Haθacr(e/i) = basically, someone who is “aesthetically pleasing”

Orad’ = a good friend or long-time companion (a.k.a. “bro”)

Oranj(e/i) = a sweetheart, honey, someone who loves everyone *

Šalacr(e/i) = beloved, used as a term of endearment **

Šalad’ = lover, boyfriend/girlfriend (sometimes spouse as well)

  *I’ve seen this described as a “Squish” on Tumblr

**This term is the one I would use for an asexual relationship, since it has no sexual implications

New Conlang Again

Ok, so, I basically accidentally a whole new conlang. I like it lots. So I translated something into it! I'm calling this new lang Uelo. It's more complex than Kilta. Still tons of fun though! 

All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.

Alo tul naa ešuea il’ tsitii, Il’ alo senoug-mei-aamaa naa aimog; ‘Adaro tul naa nætšo il’ silii, Pulac’a muulim il’ toguer cue geluiš. 

Æšelba raacli moevur, N’yni umæfca ni’evu; ‘Eluiver cale-tul-himarov, Corohimil’ naivu ana corohime.

I think my two favorite words so far are corohimil' and corohime. They supposedly translate to "crownless" and "king" respectively, but they more literally mean "not-with-a-crown" (coro = crown, him = with, il' = not) and "man-with-a-crown" (-e = masculine). They make for a very nice-looking last line.
