30 Day MMA - Day 11: Least Favorite MMA Event
UFC 143. I don’t think I even need to explain why this event left a bad taste in my mouth.
Let It Be Known.
That I do not hate Carlos Condit. He’s a great fighter with a great record; I just dislike the crap out of him for beating Diaz and I guess that’s really not his fault, he was just doing his job. But Nick Diaz is still my #1 favorite fighter no matter what a panel of oblivious judges says.
On the subject of judges, you know who everyone should be hating on? NSAC, for supplying Nevada’s UFC events with the most inconsistent and untrained judges possible. You know who should be judging UFC events? Veteran MMA fighters, maybe Dana White (if he’s not too busy taking over the world), or anyone else who actually has a solidly-based knowledge of MMA.
I sincerely hope the fact that Nick Diaz is challenging his temporary suspension from NSAC means that he’ll come back to MMA, or that he at least thinks he might possibly eventually want to come back. I was really disheartened by his post-UFC 143 statement of retirement and have been hoping that he’ll come back to the mat, even if not as part of the UFC. Though if he were to come back with a different MMA promotion, I’d say good luck trying to find a promotion company that hasn’t been or isn’t eventually going to be swallowed up by Zuffa and have it’s assets transferred over to the UFC.
Diaz is my #1 favorite fighter, both in and out of the octagon, because he’s a true fighter who doesn’t give a shit about the pageantry of press conferences and inner-sport politics. He just likes to fight real fights and he’s goddamn good at it. Mind you I don’t discredit a fighter for seeing reason in public relations, being a trooper, and bearing the three-ring press circus for the benefit of the sport’s expansion, but I simply relate better to Diaz’s intolerance for other people’s stupidity or foolishness. Seriously, Diaz, this sport needs you. If you leave forever, where will we get our fill of middle fingers, trash talk, and serious brawls? Okay, well…there is Nate, and he’s pretty damn awesome, but why have one Diaz when you can have two?
