“no, no, no.” odette was not a fan of this already, everyone was going to burn to a crisp and none of them were going to make it to the next stop. she was a fan of the heat and the sun when it came with a five star resort, cocktails and an infinity pool. not back yard animals and a lack of sanitary stations. “you did not put nearly enough sunscreen on, you have to lather, you’re not on a beach back home now cover your head and get more sunscreen on, please for the love of god.”

“no you can’t possibly want to hike, this is supposed to be the part we get to rest before we go and do all the hard work.” finley whined as he looked back at the other, a scowl on his face. “are you sure we can’t just sign up to a game drive? i don’t even think i have hiking boots.” a lie but he wasn’t going to tell them that.

either the dean was a cruel mastermind, or emerson had the worst luck in the world. reese was her roommate. had this been a few weeks ago she would have been thrilled, jumped at the chance to spend time with her bestfriend and now here she was dreading just that - the guilt was going to eat her before any lion did. “pretty sweet set up right?” she beamed softly as she looked back at the other. “i mean i knew we would go to some cool places but this is a whole other level.”

“oh my god, i feel human.” odette breathed as she walked her way into the restaurant, her hair freshly blow dried, her clothes clean and her nails pampered once more. “and we can order cocktails, and order real good and honestly i might cry and i’ve never been more thankful for the shit i have in my entire life.”

“i still can’t believe that they have separated us as roomies, do they not know we’re married.” emerson shuddered. living with everett had become a comfortable norm and she didn’t want to give it up for anyone or anything, still it wasn’t like she had any room to actually make a fuss and so she was stuck playing avoid your roommate. “who did you get? are they going to prove all the gummy worm goods....wait can ew even get gummy worms out here? and no police interceptors? what will you do?”

it wasn’t that she was avoiding him. she just hadn’t sought him out the same way she had done before they had crossed a line they couldn’t walk back over. with her feet dipping in the edge of the pool emerson was enjoying basking in the sun, her ignored bikinis living as she fished them back out. feeling a shadow fall over her emerson opened her mouth a little, smiling softly at the sight before her, tommy. “hey stranger.” she hummed gently, africa suited him and his open shirt. “you coming swimming?”

“so on like a scale of one to ten? how likely do you think we are to be eaten by a lion whilst we’re out here?” emerson asked as she looked back to zeki, hands rubbing the last of the sunscreen over his shoulders. “i mean, should we be concerned the dean is trying to kill us? first the ghost potential of london and now lions?”
