It had gone like this.
“I’m sorry, he thinks he’s funny,” Eddie said with a laughing smile, because he actually found Richie funny more than he liked. He swears as a kid he was better at covering it.
The waitress had smiled politely and said “my husband thinks the same thing. You two make a beautiful couple.” That had caused Eddie’s stomach to drop and colour rise high on his cheeks. He opened his mouth like a gaping fish, trying to deny that he and Richie were not a couple, but he stumbled over his words, ending on a small sound before dropping his head down to his chest.
He’s not sure if it’s embarrassment that has him suddenly so nervous, but he can barely glance up to Richie to take in his reaction.
