thinking about Gail and Colts relationship and feeling super ill over it like when you get down into it it’s like a fucked up crueler mirror version of Stratt and Graces relationship, and in so many ways it’s the same. It’s so. It’s.
it’s about how both Gail and Stratt knew Colt and Grace for so long, but Gail still tried to get Colt to do what she wants by appealing to an inflated or bruised ego he didn’t have, and Stratt hit Grace right where it hurt. how they both knew colt or Grace, but only one actually knew him.
it’s about how Stratt kept Grace at arms length to keep him or herself from getting hurt, and failed anyway. And how Gail embraced Colt knowing full well she did not give a solitary shit if he lived or died. (“We’ve known each other for 10 years!” she says, smiling, looking at this exhausted man who’d had an incredibly draining awful 24 hours(and she KNOWS this, she caused it) and slapping a sticky note in his hand. “Now go spend your night doing this pointless chase around the city for a man you will not find. Go fetch,” she means but does not say. “Now go off and die because it’s convenient for everyone,” she means but does not say. “Nobody will even notice you’re gone,” she says with that megawatt smile, and Colt takes some offense but not enough to say no.)
it’s about both Gail and Stratt leading Colt and Grace to the slaughter without their knowing— one for her own benefit, and one for the sake of the world. One with a smile, and the other with tears in her eyes.
