"Why are you so calm about this?" Harry demanded, pushing himself out of the chair. "He was your friend. Best friend, from what you lot told me. Why aren't you furious?" Green eyes pierced through Remus skull. His mentor was right. He knew this - deep inside. But the wound of Sirius' death was still fresh, and he couldn't just sit here and do nothing while the person who had murdered his uncle walked free.

"He should be here," The young wizard muttered, feeling that familiar burn at the back of his eyes. "I can find a time-turner. We can fix this..."

the easiest thing to do is stay quiet when something’s up. you’re not bothered, and you know what? you shouldn’t be! it’s none of your business, even when it’s entirely your business. it’s difficult (read: impossible) to tell if your cheery demeanor is a cover-up for something sadder, or if it’s simply your natural state of mind. you see a lot of things: people coming through town, people leaving the house and never coming back, lies and deceit of the highest degree. what happened to you? will you ever be that kid again? your presence smells like cotton candy, and your fingertips sparkle like stars. whatever white rabbit you’re chasing isn’t going to lead you to wonderland if you don’t start reaching out when you’re not feeling okay.

"Kakashi, I--" He began, stopping himself and shaking his head. Those weren't the right words, he determined. The correct words were inside of him, he knew that much, but he couldn't quite find the strength to get them out. But he realized that he looked stupid just standing there, so he took a deep breath and forced the words out. "Am I a disappointment to everyone? I am, aren't I? You know what, never mind." With a frustrated expression, Sasuke began walking away stiffly.

Kakashi’s eyes flew open for a moment, and then he was moving, shaking his head and trailing after the boy. "No, Sasuke."  He wanted to reach for Sasuke, but it felt wrong, somehow. Like maybe he was stepping into a home he’d been uninvited to. “I let you down, I…"

How to apologize? To say what he’d known for so long, but hadn’t had the balls to admit? Sasuke didn’t deserve to keep all this inside, to shoulder the blame for things that were well out of his control.
