4 Years Ago Today: The Duchess of Cambridge visited The Great Tower Scout Camp to attend the Scout Volunteer Training Day in Newby Bridge on March 22, 2013.
So, we are due to have a discussion about the internet with our Cubs (1st Kendal Scout Group). After much searching we had found very little that covered all we wanted tell them. So we have written our own discussion sheet, with lots of points we can expand on as needed (can also be adapted for age group). Think we've covered most things.
They can add their own doodles to personalize it.
Parenting Problems #5: Beavers (no, the clean, Scouty type ones)
Beavers is like Scouts for littler kids in the UK. They do Scout shit but in a smaller, easier way.
My son is one.
He was one at one unit, which was really piss poor, so he moved to another for his last two terms before Cubs. All his mates are there.
He did his promise again, got a woggle and all that shizzle.
Have you ever tried sewing the badges on a Beaver uniform?
You have to put most of them, on the sleeves. Not the far easier front bit, no the goddamn mofo-ing sleeves. Sleeves suited for a 7 year old, not the hand of a 34 year old.
I wish to add at this point that I am a) cack handed, b) shit at sewing c) dysbraxic.
It makes my brain hurt.
Then, once you’ve got these bastard badges on the sleeves, there is getting them in the right place. This shit matters. The last patrol woman made me take them all off (the front) and put them in the right place.
I am going to google. To search Beavers.
My search history should be fun with that term.
:)
Starting in the New Year, scouts in the UK will be allowed to go paintballing (we haven't been allowed to before because of health and safety concerns). From what i've seen, most paintballing places are only allowing over 12s with parental permission and plenty of leader supervision. Good luck to them getting our leaders to take them though...
<3 I love this photo! :)
Things might be a little quiet this weekend as I've got to plan Scout camp!
First night back at Cubs!!
Very excited :)
It's felt like the longest summer ever!!!
Scout shirt on and ready to go :)
