The Rise of UKIP
A recent poll has shown that UKIP has managed to gain the support of 20% of the British electorate. This is an astounding figure, considering some of UKIP's ridiculous representatives, such as Godfrey Bloom. The party's policies often lean towards the hard right and include proposals such as a flat tax.
Nevertheless, Farage has managed to gain considerable amounts of support from the public. I am now going to postulate why this is. There is no doubt that Farage is a member of the upper-class, fiscal conservative contingent, but in recent months his party has become more popular amongst working-class voters. Some have found this surprising, but UKIP's anti-establishment arguments that over-simplify debates on the EU and immigration strike a chord with many people. Farage is a populist, sound-bite machine and his party is similar to the US Republican Party in many respects. Like the Republican Party, UKIP's support comes from an unholy alliance between rich people looking to benefit themselves financially and a social conservative working-class who believe that isolationism will improve the quality of their lives.
Do not vote for UKIP.
